“Extremely cosy hotel near train station”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2010

Kaiserin Augusta Hotel is opposite the train station, within a 10 min. walk of the city centre. The hotel’s free transport pass has been suspended three years ago, but this is not the slightest problem, because for 10 euro you can have the Weimar City Pass, which gives you free public transport for 72 hours and a reduction on most of the objects of interest in Weimar.
The hotel has a rather large entrance hall with a cosy bar and the breakfast/dining room on your left. To the right you’ll find an internet point, the use of which is rather pricey: 3 euro for 20 min. and 5 euro an hr. (many hotels offer internet for free nowadays). The hotel Augusta furthermore offers wireless Internet access throughout the entire building. There are private parking facilities, and conference/meeting rooms. By way of the elevator you reach one of the 50 rooms.
Check in/check out went very smoothly. All personnel we met was very kind and helpful.
We asked for a quiet room and we got one on the 2nd floor (201). It is a small but perfectly fitted up twin room: two single beds with excellent mattresses, a good working TV, a table top fixed to the wall, a minibar, soundproofed windows (although being opposite the train station, you do not hear any noise) and sufficient room for your clothes. I am not sure there is airconditioning; if so than I think it is centrally managed. The bathroom is small with only a shower and liquid soap. It is all impeccable clean.
Warm and cold breakfast is served in the well decorated restaurant (Christmas time), and was excellent. Several kinds of yoghurt, cereals, bread, jams, meat and cheese products, fruit, etc. were all of good quality. We had dinner three times, at reasonable prices. Fillet of deer and ceasar salade are very good, trout fillet is not advisable.
For just over 63 euro this prefectly situated, cosy, well decorated, feel/good hotel with extremely kind staff is very recommendable.

I was very impressed. My single room was small but very comfortable; reception staff were very friendly; and for only about 50 euros a night I thought it was a very good deal. The hotel overlooks the station square - very convenient for rail travellers like me and on the edge of the city centre, an interesting 10 minutes' walk from Weimar'smain attractions. Little traffic uses the square at night so even with the window open, it's quite peaceful.

Compared with another place we stayed at for one night in Weimar (similar rate) this hotel was top! The service was very friendly, room was clean, hotel is located within walking distance to the main tourist attractions (else bus directly in front of the hotel). Parking was a bit expensive but it is possible to park the car in one of the streets around the corner.

I stayed one night in the Hotel Kaiserin Augusta. The room was nice, rather large, had a nice bathroom too. It was on the fourth (top) floor, but the way the hotel is built, the rooms all face into a courtyard so it was very quiet. The hotel has a restaurant and bar that were both very nice. I had a great meal there. They do serve breakfast as well. My room rate included breakfast. They have parking underneath the hotel and it was easy to go in and out. One note of caution, not very many of the staff speak English at all (former East Germany tends to be this way) so have a phrasebook handy.

Two couples travelled to Germany to stay in Weimar for a week.
The very pleasant railway station was directly opposite the hotel separated from the Hotel by a green space with pathways about 200 metres away. The Hotel was warm and comfortable and the foyer area was restful. The dining room was bright and comfortable in addition to serving an excellent hot breakfast. although the Hotel was on the outskirts of the main commercial area, it took 15 minutes to walk into the centre or much less by the free buses beside the railway station. Furthermore the restaurants nearby are much cheaper than those in the centre of town.
Weimar is a very attractive town which boasts a wealth of cultural and architectural attractions and not to be missed is its magnificent park. Rail connections are outstanding. Trains depart to destinations all over Germany at regular intervals and we were able to explore the neighbouring towns with ease. Dresden was about 90 minutes away and Berlin a little over two hours but there is enough in this provincial town and surroundings to keep you going for a week.

I stayed at this hotel in May as part of worst ever Travelsphere tour. The hotel is really nice, but it is on the outskirts of Weimar.
This tour was poorly pre-planned. It was impossible to carry out the tour in 20 days to an acceptable level. The expectations for the tour - driving quite long distances to enable a reasonable amount of sightseeing - were not achieved. The tour treated us as guinea pigs; in that this was the first time it had been included in the Travelsphere program.
Problems included the following:-
Clear lack of proper planning by Travelsphere
Several poor quality hotels. Worst – Minsk
Almost all hotels far outside town/city
Too many stops/long stops giving not enough time in 1 night destinations
Arrived Klaipeda at 11.30 pm and no food available even outside hotel
Didn’t see Klaipeda at all, except hotel on outskirts
Too little time in attractive destinations e.g. Gdansk, Warsaw Too Too much time in less attractive/important destinations e.g. Novgorod, Wroclaw
Too many very late night arrivals
Almost all stops had not been researched
Many stops were at ‘stinking’ little toilets

Out of 20 days 14 were transfer days - Average journey time almost 10 hours

Arrived in Weimar with no reservations, found this lovely place right across from the train station with ample parking. Usually area close to train station is not so nice, but this area is really pretty, even the station is nice. 10 minute walk to all of the sites of Wiemar proper. Room clean and updated, quiet, great breakfast buffet. Staff were very nice.
