We had mixed feelings about this hotel. We generally like Mercures, but they vary in quality. This hotel was in an excellent location, the facilities were good, and we took advantage of the free Internet availability in the lobby.

But our room was in the furthest building from the lobby (there were five elevators because the hotel must consist of five different buildings), on the top floor. It was very small, but adequate. The problem was the spotlight on the cafe across the street that illuminated the side of our building and shone right into our room.

And dinner in the hotel's restaurant was okay, but not as good as most of the dinners we had during five weeks in Germany.

This was a wonderful place to stay on our first two nights in Germany. My husband and I were travelling with a group of 27. The hotel staff had our rooms ready for our early (noon) arrival. This was greatly appreciated since we had been flying overnight and wanted to sleep and/or freshen up.

The good:
The hotel is within walking distance of the Augustinian Monastery, the Rathaus, Kramerbrucke, and many nice outdoor cafes.

We ate breakfasts and dinners at the hotel. They were marvelous buffets that allowed us to sample many different German dishes.

The reception desk staff, who spoke English, handled our incessant questions and requests with grace and professionalism.

The rooms were clean and the decor was simple but nice.

The computer in the lobby has free internet service!

Not so good:
Our room was facing the street, and the traffic noise was loud enough to keep us awake.

No air conditioning. Who would have thought we would need it in the middle of September? Opening the windows intensifies the traffic noise. Ask for a room facing the courtyard if heat or noise bother you.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is going to Erfurt!

“Lovely!”

A very tastefully appointed and upscale new hotel within easy walking distance of the sights and train station with a very comfortable bar right in the lobby. Breakfast here is QUITE an amazing spread...a delight for the eye as well as the palate... and is in the wonderful old part of the building which is well worth spending time in. It will cost you an additional 14 Euro's per person however, so plan on enjoying a nice, leisurely Frustuck here. Our room was just a bit on the small side but not at all uncomfortably so. It was beautifully decorated with interesting architectural detail...not just a "box" as we have in the US. GREAT down comforters on the beds!
As for Erfurt itself...it is enjoying a lovely revival since the reunification of Germany. Beautiful restorations of old buildings have taken place and charming outdoor cafes are everywhere. My German relative attended university in Erfurt during the communist era when everything was crumbling here and he was delighted to see these changes. A beautiful, old medieval German city! I wish we had had more time to spend here!

An excellent choice - got a good internet deal. Modern hotel incorporating parts of an earlier building. Within a stone`s throw of the main shopping street and five minutes walk from the heart of the old town. The room was modern with satelitte TV, bathroom with bath and a view to the back. The hotel is E shaped with the base of the E on the street and the top of the E being the older wing. In the basement is a sauna, steamroom and whirlpool - all very clean and amazingly quiet (I suppose it depends on the mix of guests). When we were there most guests were German. Breakfast is one of the most varied I have ever seen - cheeses, fruit, hot foods, cereals etc and even a waffle maker for making new waffles! The staff are very pleasant and helpful and I cannot recommend it more highly. The city was great and the restaurant in the castle is a must for views and modern ambience.
