Because this pub is located right in the Wartburg, we thought it might be expensive or lousy, protected by its exclusive location.
Instead, when we ducked in out of a heavy rainstorm, we had cheerful and friendly service, delicious beer, delicious German food, an attractive interior and gorgeous views out the window of the Thuringen forest. It's straightforward food: nothing gourmet or different, but the food is generous and tasty. As I recall, I had a soup to start (cabbage, maybe?) that made me feel warm and well cared for. Perfect place to rest after touring the castle and before walking back into town.
