My partner and me spent a weekend at Hotel in der Grunen Zitadelle in May 2006. It was a disappointing experience. The building complex itself, designed by the Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, is stunning. The hotel is not. We spent 152 Euros for a so-called junior suite which was just one big room. It was indicated as having a terrace, which turned out to be a narrow and inhospitable balcony facing an inner court which contained groups of noisy sight-seers quite frequently. The bathroom was nicely done in Hundertwasser design. It was also very small, containing only a shower, not a tub, and next to no shelf space. The room itself showed no signs whatsoever of Hundertwasser design. Instead, there were just two prints of French impressionists on the walls. The furniture was sparse and reminded us of a youth hostel. The bed was remarkably hard. There was a TV, but no other appliances (no radio, no clock, etc.). There was also no mini-bar. The hotel also has no room service. The overall negative impression was reinforced by the fact that any sound reverberates through the building. The price performance ratio was just unacceptable.
