“For life and love”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

I could feel the depressions made from long use of the old staircase and could imagine I was stepping in the footprints of these two musical masters. The experience was touching and informative if short. The noise of the many children who were studying music in the remainder of the building provided a refreshing change from the serious quiet of the other musical venues and perhaps gave a truer sense of the atmosphere in which our musical genuises actually lived and worked.
A side note, although the Schumanns didn't meet Johannes Brahms untl years later many know of this close relationship and a small note to this effect when mentioning the many famous guests in this house would be helpful.

“Poor Schumann!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

The Schumann House is just a few blocks away from the Mendelssohn House so it's an easy continuation of your musical tour through Leipzig, but unless you're a diehard Schumann fan who simply must see every place he's ever lived, it's actually extremely underwhelming. Schumann and his wife lived there for the first four years of their marriage and you'll see two rooms that have been recreated with very few actual artifacts, and that's pretty much it, so basically just a fraction of the experience you'll have at the Mendelssohn House. It's hard to fault the people there, though, because the Schumann Society has instead spent their money and energy for schools for children that are part of the house, but as a tourist experience this is entirely skippable.

Note: 3 euros per person without the Leipzig card, 2 euros with.
