“Off the autobahn”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2014

Location was great for us since we were driving through Germany. It is a quiet location, but it's a 30 minute tram ride into central Dresden. If you are okay with that then I would recommend it. We booked last minute and closer locations were much higher priced. Our rate included free wi-fi. There is free parking, okay breakfast and a large 3 person room that was clean with a comfortable bed. (there were only 2 of us and our 2 little dogs). The front desk staff was fine. The hotel restaurant staff was less than friendly to the point of almost being rude. When we arrived we were given a big sigh by the host and told there were no tables. I asked if this is the restaurant that provides room service and he responded yes. We were preparing to place a room service order when miraculously a table was available. We then observed several empty tables in our dining area. The food wasn't that great, but out of convenience we ate there both nights and unfortunately received the same rude waiter. The front desk should advise guests to reserve a table. The hotel feels like it's in the middle of nowhere, but the restaurant must be one of few for the locals. I would consider the hotel again, but plan to eat dinner in the city center.

We stayed in Hotel Kim for two nights so that we could spend a day exploring Dresden. Part of the reason we chose this hotel is that it is only a couple of minutes from the nearby autobahn that we were travelling along and there is ample free parking.

We had a room on the first floor at the rear of the hotel that is on a corner, so the room was not a regular shape, but this made the room more interesting. It was a large room, well fitted with furniture and it had a small table and chairs and also a fridge. The window was very large and was on the corner, so there were excellent views with the hotel being high on a plateau and you could see Dresden in the distance. The only disappointments were that the wi-fi strength was very weak and use was therefore very limited and the bottles of water in the room were 2 Euros each. They were much cheaper in a shop next door and we'd previously stayed in three hotels in Poland which all had complimentary bottles of water. Our room and all the hotel we saw was very clean and tidy with nothing amiss.

The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. The hotel sells tram tickets and the receptionist explained how to use the tickets and where to get off in town. It's about 30 minutes ride and 8.50 Euro bought us a ticket for two for the day. We enjoyed the tram ride and it gave us a chance to at the city as we travelled to the centre.

The breakfast was OK, but there wasn't a big choice for a 4 star hotel. The only hot food on offer was egg and the fresh bread you can cut with a knife had all gone when we arrived, though we weren't late and many people were coming in after us. The breakfast room is too small and there were not enough tables to seat everyone at busy times. On day two, we saw another English couple unable to find a free table and we invited them to join us on our table. There was a shortage of staff and nothing was cleared from our table as we ate our meals.

The Kim Hotel is at the near end of the tram 7 line, it takes about 25min to Hauptbanhof station. Location is very quiet, room was very spacious and spotless, staff speaks english and they are very heplful. Breakfast is very good with plenty of choices. Only negative is no wi-fi in rooms (there were internet cables though). I would recommend this hotel if you are ok with 30min train rides to the city center.

The Kim hotel is on the outskirts of Dresden, but the tram stop,is right outside for 8 euros a day you can have unlimited travel on them all, day.
The hotel is clean and well presented rooms are furnished well and are light and airy everything you need is provided,a fridge in room was great too.
Breakfast was perfect a good choice of foods and drinks.
Staff are all very welcoming and will help you

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the second floor,it's away from the breakfast room

The hotel has a nice staff and it is well maintained. The room was clean and big enough to accomodate 3 persons.
One of the things that seemed a little too much was the location of our room. It was on the opposite side of the entrance, and we had to take an elevator, walk the entire length of the hotel and then take another elevator (or stairs) and cross another hall. So if you're staying, try and ask for a room closer to the entrance.
The other thing that is unacceptable for a 4* Hotel in a country like Germany is the Internet access. There is no free internet access. You have to pay for it (and it's not cheap).
Other than that, good hotel for a last minute room.

Room Tip: Try and ask for a room closer to the reception

The Kim hotel on the Gompitzer Höhe is an ideal hotel for a visit to Dresden when you travel in the region by car. The hotel has free parking facilities and you can leave your car there and take the nr 7 tram to the centre of Dresden (and even accross the river Elbe). The trip will take half an hour or less and the tram runs until very late in the night. The friendly personel at the front desk can sell you tram tickets and help you with advice on sites and events. The hotel offers every comfort that can be expected from a 4-star hotel. Our room on the top floor was comfortable and quiet, although a bit small. The breakfast buffet was very good, but on one of the two days of our visit the capacity of the breakfast room was nearly fully used, resulted in a noisy breakfast.

Room Tip: avoid a room on the first floor, because all guests having breakfast will pass through your corridor...

This large, fairly new hotel has its own 20-minute tram stop to the Old Town and to the train station. Our breakfast was included and was fantastic including meats, cheeses, hot eggs, cereal, breads, etc. Champagne was available on Sunday. The front desk staff provided great directions to tourist sites; on-site restaurant had OK German food; there was a food market and beverage store close by. Parking was excellent and free. The room was spacious and clean with mini-bar.This was so convenient that we felt we did not need to be in the center of town. Highly recommended.
