“Heart of Dresden”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2014

Location is fantastic - the hotel is situated in the very heart of Dresden, next to Frauenkirche, in the near of Zwiebel, old city, Elba etc. You should walk for a while to come on the railway/bus station but not too far. There are trams, but if you don't have too much luggage - you better walk to avoid making big detour and to see all modern city centre either.
Hotel looks really high middle class or even upper - seems like it should be expensive in peak season, but in dead season it was really efficient. Rooms are comfortable, with small but comfortable kitchen - but the table is hardly big enough for two and certainly too small for three.
Staff is friendly and attentive.

Room Tip: Extra bed had a hole between bed's head and wall - ask for extra pillow

Great location in the middle of the city. Walkable to the Zwinger or the Dresden Castle (please check out the Green Vault!!). But why i'm bothering myself to write a review for this hotel is because I have never stayed at a better one. Fully equipped kitchenette. Yes. Fully equipped. What you want in a kitchen, they got it. Coffee maker, microwave, dishwasher, dish washing liquid, all your cutlery, pots, pans, fridge, washing machine, toaster, tea pot, kitchen wipes, salt, pepper, coffee filters, wine opener, wine glass etc. It really is the highlight of the trip to Dresden. The pictures are not an exaggeration to the actual experience. No bath tub here but the showering is an experience itself. I am very pleased with the toilet here.

Things to note: No bath tub here. No breakfast here either. But you have a nice cafe around the corner which is cheap and classy and good (beware of the service at the cafe though, my general experience with the germans aren't very good)

Service is excellent. Always service with a smile. Anyway you would be smiling too if you were staying here. Highly recommended.

This fairly recently property is located right in the heart of the major attractions in the city centre. The employees are very helpful, fluent in English, and efficient. We had a rental car, so used the garage for a nightly fee. Security for the garage was very good, however the whole area was pleasant. The room was impeccably clean and well stocked with cooking utensils, and equipped with modern and clean appliances. Doors and elevators and the entire structure seemed very well built with fire protection in mind.

The breakfast location is several blocks away, taking about five minutes to walk, but after getting our bearings the first confusing morning, it was easy to get there. The breakfast itself was more than anyone could probably consume, with a large variety of dairy products, wonderful German breads, meats, cheeses, fish, and much more. The breakfast area was crowded one day, as I think they may serve other nearly small hotels, but a table became available with minimum wait.

There is a small souvenir store in the lobby with some food items.

Because the street address is occupied by another building as well, our GPS was a little confusing. But, the area is so small that it was easy to figure it out with one quick inquiry.

Superb location in the heart of the city, still peaceful with no noise from the streets. Walking distance to everywhere, the main attractions like Frauenkirche almost next door to the hotel. Spacious and comfortable rooms, great even for longer stays. Kitchenette is a big +. Friendly & polite staff. No restaurant, even the breakfast is served in separate restaurant in a walking distance

In the heart of the tourist action, close to the Frauenkirche, and with rooms including many of the things tourists need, but which most providers forget - washing machine (only complaint, which was not understood, was that it would have meant buying a large container of washing powder. Found out on leaving that, if we had asked at reception, powder could have been provided.), racks in shower to hang coat hangers, lovely kitchenette, including dishwasher, to make breakfast or dinner (nice for long-term travellers such as us seeking familiar meals for a change). Path along shopping mall from main station was flat so trundling bags was easy in about 15 minutes. A great and memorable stay. Added plus: the archeological dig taking place outside our window!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

The Aparthotel Am Schloss has several studios and one-bedroom apartments, right in the middle of Dresden's old town. My family and I stayed in a one-bedroom apartment on the third floor (no.306) in early August 2013. Although the third floor itself can be reached by elevator, the apartment was located on the eastern side of the building and had to be accessed via the rooftop terrace and a small flight of stairs. Not a problem for us, but something to keep in mind if you have a lot of luggage or mobility issues. The views from the terrace were great though, and it's a great place to spend a warm summer evening.

The apartment itself was really comfortable, spacious and well-equipped. The owners must have a great eye for detail: everything was just perfect. We even had our own dishwasher, washing machine, and two flatscreen TVs (one in the living room, one in the bedroom). There's also a kitchen in case you're tired of eating out (but why would you?). Every apartment has free WiFi access, but you'll need to get a password and username from the reception for each mobile device you plan to use.

Staff were very friendly, and even allowed me to charge my camera batteries at the reception desk after check-out.

There's also a parking garage underneath the hotel (€20 per day), but keep in mind that on busy days you're expected to turn in your parking key at the reception around 1pm on your day of departure. So if you plan to stay in Dresden for a couple more hours, you'll have to go find another parking spot (not a big problem though, as there are plenty of garages. Q-park Altmarkt for instance is nearby and not too expensive; €16 per day).

All in all, it really felt as if we stayed in our home away from home!

The only negative point I can think of has already been mentioned in previous entries: there's excavation work going on right next to the Aparthotel (on the south side), which can wake up light sleepers at 7am. If this bothers you, just pick one of the other Aparthotels in the neighborhood.
