Owner description: Restored to its former magnificence after its destruction in the 1945 bombing of Dresden, this elaborate, High Renaissance style opera house presents opera, ballet and jazz performances, and is worth a visit if only to marvel at its ornate interior.

“Beautiful building”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

Unfortunately, I was not able to see an opera, however, I did take advantage of a guided tour (for 9 Euro) and it was definitely worth it to see this beautiful building.

“Grand”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

Lovely architecture. Nice from inside but cannot be compared to Opera houses in Vienna and Budapest. English tours are only in the afternoon. Did not have the opportunity to hear the acoustics.

“Opera in Dresden - Magical Evening!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

One of the highlights of our recent trip to Germany was taking in an opera in Dresden. We booked well in advance for tickets to La Bohene and we were delighted with the experience.

As we were staying in the central square near the FrauenKirche we had a delightful 10 minute stroll through the old town to the Semperoper. The building is magnificent. It has been painstakingly restored to its pre war majesty. It is a classic space conjuring up mental images Victorian nights at the classic opera house. The music was outstanding and the crowd was extremely upscale and decidedly local. Coat and tie is not required but almost universal.

After the show we sauntered back through a warm fall evening to the Grand Café for a wonderful pastry, café and after dinner drink. Truly a magical evening in Dresden.

Do this if you can. it is a splurge but well worth it.

“The Nutcracker Ballet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

It is THE venue for this ballet, everything matches, the decor, the history, remember the Nutcracker has it's origin in the Ore mountains, 30 klm away from Dresden.
