“Cigarette smell spoiled the experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

The whole hotel smelled like cigarette. It wasn´t allowed to smoke in the rooms anymore but strong cigarette smell was still there. The room was clean but not very attractive. Good location near the center. If you don´t like to walk the buss stop is just nearby the hotel.

We stayed in the hotel, as a couple, for one night, as a stop off to Prague, so we could briefly visit the sites in Dresden in the morning.

We didn't stay for breakfast as it didn't represent value for money, so we found a nice little cafe by the Altmarkt. We arrived late (after 2300) which was fine, we were quickly checked in and given our (hole-punched) keycard, however we were greeted with disdain as opposed to a welcoming smile. Questions were quickly answered but not in a friendly manner. Maybe it was just the end of the shift, but the member of staff didn't want to help us nor was he overly concerned by his outward appearance.

The room was large, AC worked and the bathroom had everything we needed, however it lacked the free toiletries and just had one pump of bath/shower/shampoo. Bed was too soft for me, and the pillows were small (I didn't try to ask for more), the towels were ridiculously thin.

There were stains on the carpet, the decor and condition was dated and needed some updating, and the bathroom could have done with a good deep-clean. But overall the room and facilities were "clean".

There is lots of parking available in the vicinity (on the local streets) but you may have to park a street away to get a space, but we preferred this as opposed to using the Hotel's Garage. As a value stopover it was good (with the local bus stop just <40m away); but I don't think as a hotel it is any more than "average".

Generally i liked my stay here, room was nice, the place was easy to find and the service was friendly and helpful. The location is rather easy to find but too far from the center to walk, parking along the street is probably most of the time ok, there is no reserved parking for the hotel. Extras are very expensive including internet at 10 Cent a minute or 10 Euro a night which is 5 star level.

I booked this place because it was close to the University where I was attending a conference. Indeed I could walk to there in 15 mins which was great for me, but I overheard some other guest being unhappy with the location of the hotel which is in the middle of a residential area where there are no restaurants or shops. The room was ok and clean. After a long day at the conference, I just wanted to hang out in my room and get some room service. There was a menu from the restaurant downstairs in my room so I called to order a cheeseburger, but the lady said they did not have room service so I would have to come down and get it myself, which I found really weird. Dont expect any kind of luxury, but I think its an OK business hotel without the perks of the big hotel chains.

Two words: Look elsewhere!
The room was filthy (see attached photos): mould above the bathtub, a selection of hairs and pubes on the floor and in the tub, a dusty, filthy extraction fan, soap stains on the sink, stains on the carpet, etc. The second day, the cleaning lady left her dirty cloth behind in the bathroom (instead of leaving us clean towels). We ended up buying disinfectant and cleaning surfaces ourselves.
Add to that the extremely grumpy receptionist and the hugely overpriced rates (0,10 for internet a minute?!) and you wonder in which universe this is a four-star hotel.

This hotel has been chosen not personally and was just ok for the business I had to do in DD. It appears to be a big hotel with pretty low room rates. So it might be also a good deal for a weekend get-away. The rooms are spacious and clean. The room features minibar, TV, bathtub and hairdryer, The rooms appear to be pretty noise, as I heard my next-door neighbor talking. However, this seems to be common for low-end (business) hotels. Unfortunately, the wifi is pretty expensive as well as the breakfast (12 Euro). Bakery is close by.

Admittedly, it is a bit difficult to indulge in praise for this hotel. Having said that, it is a very nice and reasonable hotel, and the people running it simple get a number of things right. In particular, if you are visiting the Max Planck Institutes, this hotel is a great choice.
