There are three Ibis Hotels in a row as you make your way from the train station to the tourist sites. I stayed in this one, the middle one--luck of the draw.

I was very disappointed in Dresden and in the Ibis in particular. I spend a month each year Eurailing around Europe. In room, Wi-Fi has become more or less standard. But the Ibis did not have it. They only had "computer access" in the lobby. So, I took my iPad to the lobby counter and asked how I would get access. We filled out two different forms in triplicate. I assured the clerk that I was not buying the hotel, just needed access. After about ten minutes of forms to fill out and sign, I was given an access code to use. I sat down and started trying to access the wi fi. The clerk began gesticulating and speaking loudly. Turns out that what I had been granted access to was to use the computer that they have set up in the lobby. Not to use my own computer--heaven forbid. So I went to the Starbucks across the street.

My overall experience in Dresden was about like that. It seems to be stuck in its eastern block ways. I have been to Prague, Krakow, Budapest, and while they certainly are not as prosperous as the east (actually Prague may well be) the difference been east and west is almost invisible. Not so in Dresden. You can palpably feel the eastern block influence in the people.

The Königstein is one of the three neighboring Ibis hotels near the Dresden historic center. It is located some ten minutes from the main station, halfway between it and the streets of the historic center. The hotels neighborhood, however, is from the East Germany era.
The hotel is clean, comfortable and relatively inexpensive, as usual with the Ibis brand. I chose it mostly because of its location.

My stay in the hotel was very pleasant. The service was good and the breakfast excellent. The staff were always very helpful when I had queries. It would have been better if Internet use had been free of charge as 30 minutes per day was not quite long enough!

During my week-long stay in Dresden I was highly satisfied with the servis provided. The staff was very nice, the hotel itself very clean and well prepared, the breakfasts very thoroughly prepared. The only thing I did not really like was the size of the room - quite small, in my opinion.

We had a room with two twin beds. The bed was too narrow I could not even turn to the side. The down blanket was very comfortable and clean but it kept falling to the floor because the mattress was too narrow.

I liked the location because it was so close to the train station.

Room Tip: A cafe right next to the building was great. I strongly recommend their bread.
