“Excellent location for historic centre”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

Although the hotel itself is a bit anonymous its location on the edge of the pedestrianised historic centre is excellent. It is right opposite the Roman Boat Museum, so if that is your must-see destination in Mainz, you would be hard pressed to find a more convenient place to stay. There are masses of restaurants, bars and cafes in the historic centre, plus an interesting cathedral with an atmospheric Romanesque chapel attached to it, and the large Gutenberg museum about printing across the market place. The bustling market around the cathedral made you feel connected to previous generations who would have shopped there in centuries gone by, many of whom would have seen the same buildings!

Room Tip: Although we were in a room facing a busy road, it did not disturb us.

Clean comfortable rooms. While rooms are not large they are definitely more than adequate size. Great continental breakfast. Very friendly staff. Close to river and on the edge of the old part of town. Bar in the lobby.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2012

I have stayed in this hotel quite a few times now and it never fails to disappoint. They are doing some work to the hotel at the moment and the standard of the rooms does seem to have improved. The best thing about this hotel is its location - very close to Roemsiches Theater train station where you can get the S-Bahn to Frankfurt Airport. It is also very close to the Rhine and to the Old Town and main shopping streets. If you stay here, you can pretty much walk to most of what you would want or need to see in Mainz (including restaurants, bars etc).

We arrived quite late in the evening so were glad to be able to walk just a short distance to the hotel from the train station. We were also able to get some drinks and food from the bar (very reasonably priced) very late and I think this is available 24 hours a day.

There is also a supermarket just up the road from the hotel with a small bakery which is great if you want to get some supplies or in our case, lots of German chocolate to take home!

Average Ibis Hotel. Comfortable bed. A bad nights sleep as noisy. Wanted a rest in the room mid day, unable to as work being carried out on the building a scoffolding being erectred. Woke on second day by drill early in the morning.
Very good location to visit this beautiful city filled with history.
The Rhein is a 2 min walk from the hotel. Excellent restaurant across the road called Citrus.
