“Nicely updated, modern, riverfront hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2011

Very nice and recently updated (exactly when, I'm not sure, but certainly recent....) Very modern feel, both in common areas and the rooms. Many rooms overlook the Rhein, as the hotel is riverfront. Almost all of Mainz's many reataurants, shops and attractions are at most a 5-10 minute walk. It is a very walking friendly city.

The staff is all very friendly and helpful, most speak at least some english. All in all, I found this to be a very good hotel for a four day business stay in Mainz.

My wife and I stayed here for a night in August of 2010 as part of an Insight Vacation Tour. The hotel is very clean and very modern. The staff were friendly and the food in the restaurant was amazing. The location is also excellent as it is located right on the Rhine River. In the evening we took a walk along the river and it was quite beautiful.

The hotel is located right next to the river. Most river view rooms has beautiful view of the river and bridge, The city side is on top to the casino. Rooms are very quite when the window is closed, but the river side can get loud (street, people, and boat noises) when window is open. Five minutes walk to Mainz shopping and restaurant areas.
Excellent Front Desk and Restaurant Staff. Front desk staff went out of their way to keep me in my room, over couple weekends that the hotel was sold out. The breakfast and dinner buffets are excellent. The restaurant staff made my stay felt like home. All of the staff speaks very good English. The hotel is going through remodeling. Sometime, the construction noise is a bit loud, but the remodel rooms and restaurants look fresh and very comfortable.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2010

We stayed here for three nights on family vacation touring Moesel and Rhine rivers. A previous reviewer was correct--the hallways were extremely run down, with thread-bear carpet and banged up walls--but the rooms were in pretty much top condition, with comfortable beds and immaculate shiny bathroom. They are evidently in process of remodeling, and one wing will be done in Fall 2010, so be sure to ask for that. It was a disappointment that the exercise room was closed for renovation, but the Rhine is right there, so I had a nice jog.
The staff was all courteous and helpful, and our room was ready for us--with a bowl of fruit, a welcome note, and our son's rollaway bed all made up. The rooms were sound proof, so that even though a loud concert going on and the hotel is on a busy street, we heard nothing. In short, it was a pleasant stay, and i would stay there again.

My complaints are more with the policies of Hilton Hotels than with this particular hotel. (1) The breakfast buffet is too expensive. There needs to be a better option for guests who simply want a coffee, some juice, and a roll or croissant. We walked the 7 minutes into the AltStadt to get that: spent one breakfast on the main square of the old Dom, where for 20 Euros for 3 (as opposed to 21 euro per person at the Hilton) enjoyed a simple breakfast and good view; the next morning, stopped at the local Kamps bakery and had a nice breakfast for only 8 euros for 3.
(2) Hilton has to stop charging the outrageous price of 21 euros for 24 hours of wi-fi service, and until it does stop I will not give them a score of "5", however nice their rooms are. Radisson Blu hotels has begun to offer free wi-fi at all their hotels--and their hotels are beautiful--and so we will stay there whenever we have the choice, at least until Hilton and Marriott adopt similar policies.

This hotel is right on the Rhein with fabulous river views and is super convenient for the old town and river cruises

Mainz is a cute little city with typically Germanic old town buildings, fabulous river cruises, friendly people and good German food. It's also home to the Guttenburg museum showcasing the origin of the printing press - fabulous!

The staff in the hotel were exceptionally helpful and sorted us out with river cruises, train trips and restaurant recommendations. Best of our trip.

The views are marvellous and public areas very swish, however there is no executive lounge and the bedrooms are clean and well appointeed but very old fashioned. I think it's in need of a refurbishment. Provided you don't expect a modern slick room, this place is excellent and I would highly recommend it as a base for exploring the stunning Rheinland region

I have stayed in both Hilton properties in Mainz and like them both. The Hilton Mainz, with its proximity to the Rhine and the Old Town is a better bet if you want to combine sightseeing with business. Nice rooms, good front desk staff (quickly saw to special requests like extra pillows), and a good breakfast with easy parking.
