“Different Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

This is a very nice hotel in a quite area in Wuppertal. All the rooms are different and designed individually and quite nice. Breakfast buffet is very good and not too expensive. The hotel has a private parking lot which could get crowd and tight.

Room Tip: If you want a double bed, ask for it, because we had 2 separate beds along the wall.

I stayed here from 04 to 08-Feb'13 (04-nights) and again from 10 to 15-Feb'13 (05-nights) (Total : 09-nights).
First the positives : Room is clean and though small offers everything you may need, breakfast is good, people who love art will love this place - it also houses an art gallery. The staff at the restaurant where Breakfast is served (is different from where meals are served) are very helpful.
The negatives : No room service, the restaurant operates as a separate entity, anything you spend in the restaurant is not added to your room bill, but you need to pay it then and there. Only one visit to the restaurant and it took 30 minutes to get your order served. Has a hot water kettle but no tea bags/suger/milk. If you are lucky water will be available in the room, as I got just one bottle for 09-nights. The wi-fi is most unreliable and works when it feels like not when you need it. I could log in only thrice during the 09-night stay. The reception staff is not very helpful and have a work to rule attitude. The wake up call requested never came, so it stopped making the request after 2 attempts. If you have a problem its your problem.
It does not have a mini bar

Room Tip: If wi-fi is important, avoid this hotel. Check-in, only if you are looking for a budget hotel

OK - I like to start with the positives. This hotel is cheap.

Now for the rest and unfortunately all negative. First of all this is, as the name suggests, a former factory. Unfortunately, it feels as though it still is one!

Check in was efficienty but unfriendly. The elevators seem to be realy old and ever so slow. One was broken and so actually getting one could be a challenge. The signposting to the rooms is just awful resulting in many wrong turnings.

Then you get to the room. The room was large but very poorly decorated and the furnishings were old. The temperature in the room was somewhere between 8C - 10C with no way of heating it up because the windows are the original factory windows which are single glazed and the heating is totally inadequate to heat the space. I slept with two duvets and a thermal vest to try to keep warm. The flooring in the room was lifting making the room look very shabby.

The bathroom was really bad. The toilet seat was broken and hanging off and the plumbing for the shower had been fitted the wrong way around so that the red meant cold and the blue hot - I just worked that out after having had a scalding shower! The glass for rinsing your mouth when you clean your teeth had someone elses' toothpaste stuck to the bottom of it.

The breakfast was very limited. The breakfast room still looks a bit like a factory canteen and the choice is very limited - no real butter! Amazing.

The meeting room again large but the majority of the electrical sockets didnt work and the sandwiches which were served with the morning coffee looked like those my Grandmother used to make!

I understand the desire to include art with a hotel but the owners must realize that art is NOT a substitute for providing reasonable facilities; it needs to be additional to that.

Room Tip: Dont stay here!

Hotel is Dark and Dreary.
Decor - old, tired and tatty bits missing out of the bath and the fridge was disgusting.
No bottled water available even to purchase.
Hotel bar closes at 10pm.
Taxi needed to get to any decent restaurants.
Better to travel to Haan.

Room Tip: Go to Haan and stay at the savoy

I stayed at this hotel in April with my son on a football weekend. It was ideally situated between Dortmund & Leverkusen. The hotel has been converted from a factory & retains many of it's old features & is decorated with unusual art throughout. Our room was long & narrow, with the twin beds head to head rather than side by side. Which was no problem.
On the negative side, the area around the hotel is a bit run down, & is a few kilometres outside of Wuppertal itself. However, you can ride on the "upside down monorail" into Wupprtal centre, which is fun.

Some how managed to end up in Wuppertal and found this place. You have a choice of rooms so you get some room cards to check them out first. Very different hotel it's great! There are artist rooms which are10€ more but they are well worth it. Breakfast isn't that great but the rooms and art make up for it!
