“good independent hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2014

I stayed here for just 1 night while visiting the University. I thought it was a comfortable place with a lot of charm and superb welcoming staff. So if you want a change from chain hotels this is certainly a good option right in the centre of Paderborn- lots of bars and restaurants nearby though not too noisy (Paderborn is not a rowdy place even at weekends!). I recommend Pane e Vino just down the road. Only downside was the free internet connection- it took a while to get set up, with thanks to reception staff for helping out, but the signal was quite weak so that impeded work. That's really the only reason for docking a star. I visit Paderborn regularly and would consider a return visit.

I had the joy of staying at this beautiful hotel for 3 nights on business. It is a really special place. It feels more like a beautiful guest house, than an impersonal hotel. The little touches make you feel like someone truly wants you to feel welcome. Tasteful, cozy decor makes for a warm stay. Heated tile floors in bathroom, comfortable French beds, robes upon request and an inviting breakfast. I really do love this place.

We stayed at this hotel as we were in Paderborn for a wedding the rest of our party chose a Best Western hotel but we opted for a more traditional hotel, we were not disappointed it was Very clean and the staff were very helpful. The buffet style breakfast was very good And plenty of variety. We would definitely stay in this hotel again if we were visiting Paderborn .

The Hotel zur Muhle was a wonderful surprise! We do a lot of traveling and are used to staying in 5 star accommodation. Our visit to Paderborn was to visit family and this hotel was booked for us. Although the Hotel is designated 3 star, the service was absolutely first rate. The rooms are small but functional, but what made the stay special was that at every turn we were made to feel it was our home. As a small family owned and operated Hotel you felt the pride of ownership. Anja Potz was a great help whether recommending restaurants or arranging hair cuts (we'd been traveling for a while). The Hotel is centrally located right in the old town. Everything is within walking distance and public transportation is just outside the door. The breakfast presented an excellent variety. There are no exercise facilities. We would definitely stay there again.

This is a lovely little hotel with very friendly and helpful staff who made me feel very welcome. The hotel is nicely decorated and feels very homely. The breakfast is varied, lots of choice, fresh fruit, and served in a nice room. The hotel is in a great location, my room faced a little park with stream, very quiet, but still only 5 min walk to the main shopping street. There are a variety of restaurants and pubs nearby. My room had a big window that could be fully opened! Lovely to sit in the sun in the evening. Bed comfy and wide despite being in single room. Ok there was no fitness centre, but excellent 5k running track along the river direct from hotel. WIFI free, fast and reliable. Very clean, although sensitive souls may have been bothered by odd smell in my room, but that disappeared after I left the window open over night. Ask for a room towards the front, the view out the back is probably not very nice. If you got to go to Paderborn, then this hotel will make your trip a happy experience.

Room Tip: ask for room towards park

This place is certainly one of the best in Paderborn.

- the beds are great
- the rooms are small, German style, but very clean
- bathroom products are very poor
- service is ok
- rooms are quiet
- no fitness
- no 24/7 reception, gone after 10pm
- good location downtown

Paderborn has in my eyes a pretty poor hotel culture. I stayed in several places and would recommend this place together with the Welcome Hotel.
