“Best in MG but could be better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2014

Dorint is the best available of the big three hotels in Monchengladbach, it is usually the first to be booked out when there is a big conference in Dusseldorf.
I think I saw "rooms from €65" well I never got a room for less than €130. Then €18 for the breakfast is not good value, I would be surprised if I ever ate over €5 worth of food.

AS i've just got a loyalty card there was a very nice bowl of fruit in my room so that was nice.

The one thing that really upset me, was when using the gym I had just done a good session on the tread mill and I needed a drink of water, they don't have a water fountain in the gym, Why not???? I was so desperate for water that I had to drink it out of the tap in the changing room. Maybe I should have had a water bottle but it is not something I thought of when packing for a business meeting.

I stayed there for more than a month. Hotel is really good with excellent fitness and recreational facilities. Restaurant is also good with delicious food selection. Staff is really nice especially Mr. Olcay was very helpfull.

Big hotel with a nice restaurant and its own gym. The rooms are spacious although not very clean (a bit dusty and very stained carpets). The restaurant is big and the food is great. The gym is independently managed and is great for a hotel gym.

We stayed for one night in Monchengladbach. The hotel is near the city center and at a walking distance from the Hauptbahnhof, in a park setting. Beautiful trees around the hotel, which in itself is not beautiful but basic. Our room was basic too: very neutral atmosphere but okay for the night. A pleasant surprise in the morning: what a great breakfast does this hotel serve! Lots of choice (bread and fruit and yoghurt and spicy stuff), whatever you could wish for. No better way to start the morning! We were impressed.

I used to travel to this hotel fairly regularly with work and thankfully that all stopped until a couple of weeks ago.
Jesus this place is dull. It really is.
No minibar
The smallest bar known to man (ok its small but not record breaking).
The food in the restaurant is not bad but nothing to get giddy about. If you like a burger, get the Dorint burger. It shouldn't kill you and you've only a 60% chance of getting ill from it.
I stayed in one of the freshly renovated non-smoking room. Now I'm not picky but whoever did the renovation needs a talking to. The way to describe it would be "sick coloured". Although I loved the irony when I say a massive cigarette burn on the carpet.

Hopefully I'll never have to go back.

Room Tip: I was given a smoking room once as the hotel was full. It was foul. Avoid!

If you end up staying in Mönchengladbach, home of the only soccer club that kept up with the Bavarians for over a decade during the 60ies and 70ies, this is the place where you want to be at after a long day of work. Nicely located adjacent to the park entry, it is a modern dwelling with modern, designy interior ... Only the SPA is a little inconsistent (no star taking away for that, though) with its mixture of updates and brownish/creamish 70ies/80ies wall tiles and doors.

A 3km jogging path in the park is virtually at the hotel main entrance. I took it and its very nice, although I ended up with ten minutes of cemetry jogging and had to pass some railtracks, what I was not supposed to do, during my 30 minute jogging adventure.

Rooms are totally up to date, very good and contemporary design, more than you would expect. Bathroom same thing. Top-notch beds and matresses. Ample power outlets for gadgetry.

The hotel shares a top restaurant, see separate assessment. However, aircrews be alerted. Hotel offers 25% food discount and 50% drink discount if you present your crew card at the front desk. Nice front desk lady offered this to us without us inquiring. Supposedly restaurant offers better food quality than downtown joints.

All in all a 100% thumb up for this place ... If you end up in Mönchengladbach :-)

Oh, I forgot, outstanding breakfast buffet, ample choices sweet, sour and salty. And ... Hot eggs served at your order!

I've stayed in this hotel twice during business trips. First I had my room on the back side facing the park and there was no aircon in there. It was hardly ever over 20 degrees and it was April. Second time in June the room was in the front side this time with a pre-historic loud aircon which I ran on max though it couldn't cool down the air. Finally I realized that the room was just over the sauna and being 32 degrees outside and heated by the sauna I had to sleep in a really hot room for four nights. You can bet that they couldn't change my room as all was fully booked.
The breakfast is ok, service as well but I rather skip going to the pool let alone to the sauna where you can go only naked. C'mon it's an international hotel for sakes!
