This hotel is far from being three star. The rooms were musty, the furnishings were ancient, the bed linen was spartan and what there was was torn. We were on the third floor and there was no elevator.

We might have been willing to overlook this if the staff had been friendly or helpful but they were neither. We had to leave a day early having discovered that Dortmund Airport was farther away than expected (the hotel had been booked for us) and we gave the hotel more than 24 hours notice. Yet despite being nearly empty they insisted on charging us 80% of the room rate for the day we would be gone.

It took 30 minutes of arguing before they finally relented. At one point one of the staff was even threatening to call the police.

The hotel is in a very quite part of Essen so is unlikely to get too many overseas visitors, but for those who might consider it I was suggest you look elsewhere.
