“"We are very honoured that you are with us"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

said Ellen, the head waitress/manager of this nice hotel/restaurant, a little on the outskirts of Duisburg.
Isn't that a charming welcome? And it felt like it came right from the heart.

Well, let me first say something about the hotel facilities. Yes indeed, as others stated here on TripAdvisor, the room was small, and it was basic, some things hung loose, but it had all one needs: a good mattress, clean bathroom, flatscreen tv, free well working wifi. And ..... no driving needed after the plentiful meal that was going to be savoured.
Now if the hotel doesn't suit you, no bother, there are plenty others within walking distance. In that case, you will have a nice digestion walk, haha.

The restaurant then:
A modern room, aery and light. Jazzy music, the obligatory Norah Jones and other jazzy, loungy artists playing ....
Finally, after 4 days of biking, through heavy weather, and having the menu in our hands, we could already feel the promise of a superb meal.

What did we eat?
-Parmesan canneloni, filled with a parsley cream, topinambour and pomegranate.
-Wagyu carpaccio, fried quail leg, herb saitling.
-Irish lam rack, white aubergine, courgette kaviar, black garlic, beef heart tomato and olive crackling .
-Bresse chicken, fried foie gras, pumpkin seeds.
What we received, were superb presentations, different structures, asian influences, exquisite products .... Mmmm, so tasty.
Still, to my palate, here and there some too sweet accents. But as always, I tend to be very critical, sorry.

Winelist was small, but showed most of the different styles in wine that one needs to accompany a fine gourmet meal. Some can be taken by the glass, or as an arrangement off course.

And finally the breakfast. All the usual stuff was there and also pumpkin and sunflower seeds. So we could mix togheter our favourite morning meal: fruits, fresh cheese, oat flakes and seeds.

The promise was kept. It really was an overnight to be remembered for a long time.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012

We booked a double room in December of 2012 for two nights. The hotel is not that large (I guess 15 rooms or so in total) and easy to find on a large street. The check in is in the restaurant and the staff was friendly. The hotel has a restaurant which we didn’t use, also not for breakfast. Below the pros and cons are mentioned:

Pros
- Spacious bathroom
- Clean room (but not that large)
- U-bahn right in front of the hotel (30 seconds walk)
- City center is walkable (15-20 min)
- Free car parking (non guarded)

Cons
- Lightning. There are 2 choices; all sealing lights shining as bright as bright daylight, or make use of 1 bed light! There’s nothing in between like a standing light or so.
- The hotel is noisy. You can hear people walk in the room above and if you have a front-of-the-house room you will hear the U-bahn every 15 minutes.
- TV only has German channels + BBC and CNN.

Room Tip: Request a room not on the street side so that you don't hear the U-bahn.

I stayed at this place for one night. There is no reception as such, you enter the restaurant. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I had a single room. It was modern, nicely decorated, and clean. However it was so small I wondered how somebody ever spotted such a tiny space and came across the idea to put a bed into it. The bathroom was almost unusable for a tall person, probably also for a short one. It was good for a night with only sleep, if you want to use the room for anything else, think twice. Had I been on a work trip this would be one point off. Location is fairly central however not perfectly so, it was about a 15 minutes walk, probably 25 to the train station. I did not have breakfast there, but I was offered coffee for free in the morning. Free WiFi is available, and works very well throughout the place. My bike could go into the garage.

i booked a double room,, and lookin at the pics on the net, they look large spacesious and comfortable,, but they obvioulsy didnt put the pic of my double room in the internet because it was anything but,, some places of the room i had to walk around ducking the low ceilings, and room was very very small had space for a bed and not much else, the bathroom always had a bad smell coming from it and just wasnt very nice atall,, floors in the bathroom were extremely slippery and i feel out the shower nearly severing my toe,,, but other then the room,, the food in the hotel resturant is amazingly good and could never complain about that,, was extremly happy there,, all fresh and wild products,, the girl waitresses were very nice always smileing and always ready to help,, but the manager i think it was was a totall {----},, always rude ignored u most of the time,, and that made the room situtation seem all the worse,, so i wouldnt recomend this hotel to sleep in,, but visit the resturant u will have a great meal and be very happy with that for sure!!
