We stayed for three nights at the VIP Düsseldorf, and it was what we expected; the rooms were clean, the beds ok (the pillows not what I like as they were too big and there was too little stuffing), the staff helpful and the location ok. The passes that gave you access to all public transport were really a steal at 2e/day, and we did use them a lot. The location is ok in the sense that its not a long walk to the Könings Allee (5-10 min), and from the hotel its a few minutes to the tram stop that takes you straight to the Old Town in a matter of minutes (next time I'd perhaps try to stay directly in the old town just for the atmosphere). There are also some restaurants very near to the hotel; Italian, Turkish, Indian etc., but as we spent the days in the Old town we ate there. The breakfast is basic, no culinary delight but gets you through the morning; there's bread, some cold cuts, cheese, some veggies, yoghurt, cereals etc. The staff was ok, the guy who worked evenings/nights was the one we saw most and he helped us with everything we asked for. We were also allowed to leave our baggage at the hotel as our flight back home left in the evening, which was great as we didn't have to take them to a deposit or anything and could use our last day as we wished (=shopping ;) Oh and there really wasn't a hair dryer in the room even though it said so on the website, so best bring your own.
