My wife and I stayed at Villa Achenbach several times and will come back whenever we visit Düsseldorf. The hotel offers its services in a comfortable, intimate, and welcoming setting,The rooms are tastefully furnished in classic style, the bathrooms are impeccable, the beds are comfortable. The breakfast buffet offers sufficient choices of meat, cheese, salmon, eggs and, of course, German bread. With Christmas approaching the hotel was decorated accordingly - including typical 'Stollen' for breakfast. There are no coffee/tea making facility in the rooms but the friendly staff is always happy to serve hot beverages (and one can have a sundowner in the lounge bar). The location is slightly off a main road and very quiet indeed. In short walking distance one finds good restaurants for lunch and dinner. Parking is an issue in the neigbourhood but the hotel offers parking lots for a small fee (recommended to reserve with the room booking). The couple owning/managing the hotel takes real pride in maintaining a hight standard of the premises. Hotel staff is very friendly, helpful and efficient. It is a pleasure to stay at Villa Achenbach!

Room tip: If you travel with lots of luggage, ask for a groundfloor room as there are no lifts.

We stayed at the Villa Achenbach while visiting the Xmas markets in Dusseldorf. The place is quaint and was beautifully decorated for the season! The room was made out in an antiquated fashion but the facilities, and particularly the bathroom all very modern! We had room 31 which was at the head of the stairs and one floor directly above 'Reception' and we could hear people talking downstairs. Luckily, we were so tired it didn't bother us. The bed was large and very comfortable.

The breakfast room is small, but again tastefully decorated. The food was plentiful and of a good quality.

The staff were very helpful with directions and getting us to another hotel when they said we had only booked in for one night, when in fact we had booked for two. And when we checked in, the lady on reception confirmed our two night stay. However, they found us a nearby hotel which was equally nice and a member of staff drove us to it, rather than carry our bags through the city streets. All of which makes me think the mistake was on their part, not ours or Expedia's!

It IS a nice hotel and there is a tram stop a couple of hundred metres away which can take you into the 'Alt Stadt' for 2.5 Euros in no time, and for me was part of the experience. If I'd been able to spend both nights there, I probably given it a 5 star rating .... however ..... I shall not let the misunderstanding spoil my overall view of the place.

Our choice for this hotel is because the silent location not the busy down town, only 10 minutes with the tram to the shopping centre. The rooms are superb with all the latest technology, direct hot water and powerful rain shower, the bed is double and not 2 singels next to each other, super clean and you do not want to stand up for the wonderful breakfast, the bed is pure quality. We shall recommend this hidden gem. From Central station you can take a taxi for 9 euro's within 10 minutes

Our stay in the month of december was just great. The hotel was nicely decorated with christmas decoration, really cosy. We had a nice, clean and large room with a great shower! It's only a bit hard to get close enough to the mirror for applying make-up (especially when you wear glasses, like I do). Breakfast is really good, a nice variety of cheeses and meat, salmon, eggs and a lot of fruit. Very friendly staff, especially the man who welcomed us, gave us a lot of information about the city, how to get there by public transport and where to go. Really close to the city center and in a nice and quiet street. Only the wifi connection in our room was not great. Great experience!

Booked this hotel after reading reviews for our first Christmas Markets visit to Dusseldorf. Arrived late evening to what looked like heated words between guest and staff in German and ignored by two other members of staff. We wondered if we had done the right thing booking here. Next morning our fears were gone the staff friendly and attentive. Breakfasts were a cold buffet meats cheeses smoked salmon cereals breads preserves and hot scrambled eggs. Our waitress was very pleasant and helpful. Although no tea/coffee facilities in our double deluxe room I asked for hot water each evening on return and it was always served in my room. The staff recommended an Italian restaurant which was excellent. On checking out our bags were kept safe till we needed to leave late afternoon. The Christmas decorations were tasteful throughout the hotel and even little touches in our room. Would highly recommend this hotel and would consider if in Dusseldorf. Only downside is I think there is only one room with a bath the rest are showers. They dont supply bars of soap only liquid. Hairdryer is in shower room. It is a quiet street location. Not far from tram stops. You can buy 24hour pass for 2 people for €9.50.

Room tip: If you want a bath ask before booking. Ground floor room can hear reception conversations till about 10pm.
