“Reasonable price for a perfect accommodation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

This is a charming stylish place for those who like comfort and convenience. You can combine sightseeing and shopping, eating out and walking/ everything is perfect. A good starting point fot travelling to other places like Koln< Amsterdam, etc.Definitely recommended.

Room Tip: Not close to the elevator (505) which works at night. Some drunk people can spoil your sleep at 3 am

Just got back from 3 days in Dusseldorf and stayed here at the Hotel Excelsior. The cost of the hotel I thought was very reasonable at £60 per night for a nice double room. The hotel itself I would guess was built or last refurbished in the late 60`s or early 70`s. The decor seemed to lend itself to that kind of style. The rooms were massive. The bathroom we had, had brown tiles, and a green bathroom suite straight from around 1970. The toilet wasnt bolted to the floor so it moved around when you used it. However, everything was spotless. Very clean. The bedroom itself was really good. 2 big cupboards for storage, a nice new Sony LCD tv on the wall. Large selection of channels including some HD ones although we only found 1 English channel. Not a problem however as we did not come here to watch TV! The bed was very comfortable, certainly one of the most comfortable ive had in a hotel. All in all, the room did exactly what we want and we were happy with it.

The breakfast was really nice. Good selection of a cooked breakfast (the sausages, scrambled eggs & potatoes in particular were all amazing), 12 different Cereals to choose from, fruit, yoguarts, plus the normal continental range of hams, cheese, breads. We certainly had our fill each morning.

The staff were all extremely friendly. Normally in hotels you get the odd member of staff who is nice, some who are okay and a few miserable ones. But in this hotel, everyone we spoke to was really friendly & happy. The desk staff always were very keen to tell us places to visit, the breakfast lady was very attentive and happy, even the cleaners were more than happy to show us our room without us even asking.

The hotel is about a 8 minute walk from the old town, so its in a nice quiet location. The walk is actually really enjoyable as you can walk through a choice of about 3 parks and its very scenic - lots to see - including the benches made out of OSRAM light bulbs! We certainly didnt feel the need to get the subway or a taxi. A taxi however from the market square back to the hotel is about a 3 minute drive and 5.50euros. Taxi from airport to hotel costs around 25 euros and is about 10mins if that.

Id certainly recommend this hotel.

Only bad point id say is that the TV in the lobby area is so amazingly big I now want to buy one for my house.

This hotel was very pretty! Rooms were super clean and nicely decorated. The staff was very friendly and told us everywhere to go visit. They even opened up the hotel bar for just us when we got back in at night. It was kind of far from the Altstadt along the Rhine River but we ended up taking the subway and it made it alot easier. Great hotel!

Good hotel near city centre. Free wifi which was a good speed and a free drink at the bar. Just what you need after a late night flight in. Taxi from airport was 18Euros. Room was comfortable, but no air conditioning so thankfully it was not hot at the time, or it may have been an issue. Great Italian restaurant across the road. Overall a good stay

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2012

My wife and I stayed for four nights at the beginning of August and thoroughly enjoyed the hotel. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a nice en-suite bathroom and a large flat screen TV to catch the Olympics (not all rooms were so well equipped).
The beds were great but the lack or air-conditioning was a shame as the weather was very warm during our stay. Lovely breakfast buffet served in a pleasant dining room off reception and a comfy bar area was just off the lobby for a relaxing drink later. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and the location of the hotel was perfect; 10 minutes walk to the Rhine and 15 minutes into town, with trams outside the door if required.

Dear MM02eden,

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your stay with us. Such great feedback is definitely a motivation for us to always give our best!

As you correctly point out, we do not feature air conditioning at the hotel but however we do try and keep the rooms as cool as possible by opening windows, placing fans in rooms and closing curtains.

Thank you once again. We hope you will find another good reason to come to Duesseldorf and visit us again.

Best wishes,

Andre Vestert

The hotel is not so cheap, but considering the location and the room, the charges are fine. It is right in city center with Rhine just 10 mins walk and City station just 3 stops away.
Room was large and good, though internet was not working on first day. Very close to airport also, just 20 Euros by taxi.

No Air Con in the room, can be a problem in summers.

Being a vegetarian found very limited options apart from bread. Even egg omelet is served cold, there is no option to request staff to prepare a customized hot omelet.

Would rate it as a decent hotel at the price offered, though nothing out of the world. Have stayed in better hotels.

Dear Tarun A,

Thank you for your honest feedback and spending your time to share your experience with us.

It is a pity that our breakfast choice could not meet your expectations, we would like to apologise for that. Would be great if we could have the chance again to convince you, that our highest priority is to meet individual wishes.

Should you decide to stay with us again in the future, please do not hesitate to let us know how we can best serve you and meet your needs.

Best wishes,

There is really nothing bad to say about this hotel. It was clean and the staff were super helpful from the cleaners, dining room staff to the Receptionists. When we arrived we put some money on my husbands mobile phone but due to misinterpretation (we didn't get the correct network coverage) and had bought the wrong voucher. We were telling this to the lovely young man on Reception and he immediately offered to loan us one of the hotel SIM cards. As I had already topped-up my own mobile, we declined his offer but what a nice gesture. As stated by other guests nothing was too much trouble. Will return to the Excelsior when next in Dusseldorf. If I can make one suggestion to the hotel - a full length mirror would be helpful. I strongly recommend a visit to the traditional German pub/restaurant Himmel & Ahd on Nord Strasse which is just one street (I think) above the Hotel. Excellent food and service. Can get very packed so either go early or wait for a table. I can also recommend the Florian restaurant on the other side of the street.

Room Tip: We asked for a quiet room and that's exactly what we got.
