“Not a great hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

Although the hotel was near the station, I would not stay here again. There was no shampoo or shampoo in the bathroom, only an all in one gel for shampooing, showering and washing hands. When I inquired about non-smoking rooms they said yes, but was given a smoking room. The shower head was full of calcium and gunk, and could have been cleaner. When leaving the hotel after the first night (I stayed 2 nights), the man at the front desk (presumably the owner as he was always there) asked me for my keys and insisted that he needed me to leave the keys there, when I refused he told me that everyone does it because the key rings are very large.

I would never stay at this hotel again, even though it is cheap.

Room Tip: If you do stay here make sure not to have a room ending in '0' (i.e. 20, 30, 40, 50) as the...

Only smokers room available. Stank but could could open windows. Shower was an experience: only a 50cm entrance, walls around and no light inside. Greeting upon arrival was friendly but got the key to an already occupied room. Did not inspire confidence.
All in all very cheap, very centrally located. Baut would not stay again.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2011

Stayed here a couple of nights in June, chosen for convenient location, price, free wi-fi (see below) and inclusion of free transport card.
Located just 5 minutes walk from Hbf on a relatively busy street, so request a quiet room at the back if that bothers you. Single rooms are adequate size, but shower cubicle and separate toilet with wash basin sink are very small and reminded me of a ship's cabin facilities. Reception very friendly and efficient. Breakfast buffet included in my rate was adequate for me, usual continental fare: cereals, yoghurts, breads, cake, fruit, eggs, cold meats, cheeses, etc.
Free wi-fi did not work in rooms at the back of the hotel, which meant a trip to the corridor or down to reception area to get online. No biggee, but a bit of hassle. The free travel card is a real gem, and is offered by a few other hotels too. This enables you to free transport on all bus, tram, rail (not ICE trains) in the whole of the VRR area for the duration of your stay. A fantastic extra.
Only negative for me at this hotel is inter-room transfer of noise through the thin walls and door to the corridor. My immediate neighbour called home to South America at 10.30 PM for about 30 minutes each night and I heard every word. Another male guest a few rooms away had a female visitor arrive about 1 AM who was obviously very appreciative of his attentions. Their exercise routine and her vocal encouragement entertained the whole floor for about an hour or so until she departed. Nevermind, I'm sure my snoring reciprocated somewhat.
Overall, a great value hotel with helpful staff in a great location. But if a light sleeper then take earplugs.

Room Tip: Back rooms quieter, but wifi may not work there.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2010

A simple and clean hotel with a decent but not substantial breakfast. 2 minutes on foot to the main station and 5-10 to the shopping area and a few sites. I had a single room with shower and toilet, the room was adequate size. The place was quiet despite being near a main road. Furniture and decor was how things should be in a budget hotel, simple and clean. When budget hotels try to make it something more, you end up with furniture that falls apart. Wireless Internet was free and even a free travelcard for Dusseldorf. My only grumble was the bed duvet had plenty of small marks spots of cloth on it, it was definately washed but it gave the appearence that somebody had used it first! Otherwise the hotel was really clean. The receptionist at first couldnt find my booking, but ill give her the benefit of the doubt as my surname is long and Greek!

The Hotel Bahn is ideally situated to explore Dusseldorf. It is a two minute walk from Dusseldorf's main railway station and a ten minute stroll into the city to the shopping centre and Christmas Markets.

We have stayed here many times and found the hotel to be reasonably priced, clean and comfortable. We have always found Mr Marconi or a member of his team helpful. The rooms are a good size and the buffet breakfast is more than adequate to set you up for the day.

The train journey from Dusseldorf airport is about 20 minutes to Dusseldorf's central station, from there it is an easy two minute walk to the hotel.

The large Christmas Market in Dusseldorf has a great atmosphere, lots of stalls selling various christmas decorations, delicious hot food and of course gluhvein - great for keeping out the cold! If you want to go a little further afield then take the half hour train journey to Cologne or further on down the railway line is the former West German capital city of Bonn, which is 45 minutes away. On another occasion we took the wonderful two hour train journey from Amsterdam to Dusseldorf.

There are many places to eat around the hotel or in the town centre, also the railway station has many food outlets and a well stocked supermarket selling all sorts of food, drink and toiletries.

The Hotel Bahn does not offer 4 or 5 star luxury but is perfect for travellers either on a budget or looking for a convienient place to stay in Dusseldorf.
