“Did the job nicely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2009

The Batavia was a nice hotel, its basic but clean and has helpful staff. Perfect for a base for exploring the city for a few days and we got it for an excellent price with Octopus. Excellent location for walking everywhere (about 15 minutes to the Old Town where we spent most of our time) and only 5 minutes from the station where our bus arrived and left from.

Cooked breakfast was included and set us up nicely for the day. All rooms have two single beds whether you book a double or not. The hotel is situated on a road with plenty of chinese restaurants and only 5 minutes from Konigsalee.

Dusseldorf is a lovely town - enough to do for 3 days (Altstadt, Rhineturm, boat trip, Habour, Konigsalee for shopping) and plenty of nightlife especially at the weekends - we found weekday nights to be a little quiet.

Two nights at the Batavia - all in all, a great value, as it was very cheap and location was great.

- 5 min to Hauptbahnhof, 5 min to main shopping area, 15 minutes to the old town
- rooms were clean and comfortable
- typical 3 star breakfast (cold cuts, cereal)
- relatively cheap, but good value for money
- from the outside, hotel looks a bit shabby, but no complaints about cleanliness
- the reception desk being combined with the bar is a nice touch...!

Travelled to Dussledorf for a girly weekend flying via Ryanair from Weeze Airport .Flights where excellent and was pretty easy to get to Dussledorf city Centre .
This Hotel is literally 3/4 minutes from the main train station and is very central for the shops and Alstaad area .
We payed just over £50 for a 2 night stay per person ...this included Breakfast . On arrival the hotel did'nt look that impressive as it seems quite small from the front entrance but was very tardis like . Reception was clean and functional . typically german with an ethnic twist . It appears to me that it might actually have been apartments at one stage which actually works really well as the rooms are a decent size . The lift is very small but we didnt find it a problem at all .

There was three of us travelling and we had booked a triple room , check in was excellent , really friendly aproachable receptionists . However on getting up to the room there was in fact only two beds . we went straight back down to reception and got a hearty apology and where actually given an other room extra but completly free of charge for the inconvenience . The hotel was'nt that busy and they didnt really want to mess us about hulking beds in and out of the room . So my two friends had a twin and i had a double all to myself . I thought that the next day they would move me but they did;nt so i had a great room all to myself !

The two rooms we had where both spotlessly clean , modern furnishings , very comfortable , bright . cheap mini bar ( no alcohol bar downstairs ) there was a kettle but no cups/ spoons etc . The bathrooms where gleaming , showers piping hot . We where actually very pleased .

My room which was a double had a balcony overlooking other residential buildings , not very picturesque but probably well needed in the summer .

Breakfast was very impressive for the price we paid and once again the breakfast room was spotless . unusually there was hot food ...ie bacon , scrambled eggs and little frikandel meatballs . Boiled eggs in a covered basket which we didnt find till we where leaving .

excellent selection of cooked meats , breads and cheese . Pate , jams and cereals . coffee was lovely . As its a buffet you can go up and help yourself .

All the staff we came across where very friendly however one particular lady in the dining room was very formal which some guests might mistake for being rude .

The hotel was literally 100 meters from shumackers brewery which was brilliant . excellent food , beer on tap and typically german . full of history and a must do ! cost us 32 euros for 3 big meals and 6 beers . very reasonable and really good food .

I would book the Batavia again without question ...it isnt the ritz but its location is excellent as is the value for money ... really was one of the cleanest hotels i have ever been in . enjoyed our stay .
