“Good place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

After having tried many hotels in Duesseldorf I chose the Radisson Blu which is located quite centrally in town. The Hotel is big and provides a nice and modern lobby. The rooms have apparently been recently renovated. The result is a reasonably modern and stylish place, however a bit discretionary. Room furnishment and equipment is fine, beds are good, bathroom spacious, even though I would prefer a shower to a bathtub. If you're into sleeping with open windows - this is not the place for you. The surrounding is noisy with busy streets and tram around.
Despite all renovation the hotel itself can't deny its origin in the 70s - low ceilings, the "wellness area" is shabby and small. Breakfast at € 24 is audacious.

Staff is very friendly and helpful though a bit struggling with the number of guest in the lobby restaurant.

All in all a good place to stay for a short business trip - nothing really to complain about. However, there are more fancy or nicer places around for similar prices.

Room Tip: Not to high up and try to avoid room facing the main street

Dear Spike07,
Thank you for your review and the positive comments. Most of our bathrooms have been converted to rain showers, we kept only one floor with bath tubs. I am sorry that the employees did not enquire this at check-in.
Kind regards,
Erich Bänziger, General Manager

Checked in 90 mins ago and so far have moved in/out of the original room due to an awful smell (drains/sewage/cabbage) and having been moved now have a room where two visits from housekeeping can't get the tv to work. On top of this from the numerous power points in the room only one works my iPad charger for some reason so a quiet night in!

Can't be bothered to move rooms again but not a great experience for a Raddison. At least the room is clean, wifi is free and it's not far from the airport with no plane noise.

Recently visited Dusseldorf on a business trip for three nights statying at the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel. My husband was giving a paper at a conference nearby and the hotel was well placed for him to get to the conference centre easily. It was also good for me to take walks into the city (15 mins) and along the Rhine. The hotel was excellent. Breakfast was inlcuded and was a buffet style with a huge variety of foods to choose from. A chef would also cook personal orders. We ate dinner in the hotel most nights and foudn the food to be superb. In all, our experience of the hotel was very good. The staff were helpful and atttentive and most spoke excellent English.I certainly would revisit this hotel and would love to travel more in Germany if I get the chance.

Right by the StadtBahn makes the Radison in a good spot to get to the messe (exhibition) or into the alt stadt (old town).
Cheerful efficient check in and comfortable room with complimentary wi fi.
Typical gross fruhstuck breakfast buffet with good coffee and the works.

I stayed for one night in this hotel and despite the dour looking facade the inside was absolutely fine.
Check-in was pleasant with smiley faces and efficiency. My bedroom was lovely - spacious, comfortable, functional with an excellent shower and good WIFI power.
Room-service was good with efficient and courteous staff. The food was fine.
Breakfast was very good with a vast selection to choose from.
This is a very good 4 star hotel, well placed and with very courteous staff.
I would return if I am back that way and I would recommend this hotel.

The hotel looks (and is in fact) quite old from the outside, but you won't notice that once you're inside. Sleek and modern interior all around.

We stayed in one of the spacious and clean well appointed business class rooms which has a work desk, Nespresso coffee machine with plenty of cups (replenished every day), sitting area, etc. Beds were a little too firm to our taste. The room faced the front of the hotel which was mostly quiet, inspite of some loud drunk students passing by now and then. The room itself got quite hot very quickly and the airconditioning had trouble keeping it cool. Luckily the windows could be fully opened and it wasn't that warm outside. I can't imagine it being comfortable during a hot summer day though... One especially annoying part of the rooms is that the doors are very heavy and as a result slam shut really loudly. If you're a light sleeper, expect to wake up a couple of times especially in the morning when people are constanly entering and leaving their rooms.

The bathroom was large enough and had a wonderful rain shower, but unfortunately the shower door only covered about half of the showering area so the bathroom got quite wet everytime. Prepare to use up a couple of towels each day to 'mop' up all of the water on the bathroom floor...

Breakfast is what you expect at a hotel of this caliber, but at 25 euro still quite expensive. In room breakfast can be brought to you at no extra charge, but selections are very limited then. We had to get the form to order the in room breakfast from the reception each time, since it was never replaced by housekeeping.

The hotel bar looked quite dull and was more like an extension of the lobby/reception area.

Locationwise it's quite ok. The tram stops right in front of the hotel and the centre is just 4 stops away or a 20 minute walk alongside the Rhine river. Parking is expensive at 16 euro a day... You can try to find a free parking spot on the streets in the surrounding area, but during the day that's near to impossible since the hotel is located on a business park and all the employees of the businesses park there as well. Later in the afternoon or in the evening it's usually no problem finding a (free) space.

Tip: during the booking process we were offered to book the standby upgrade ''Minibar''. If awarded at checkin, you may use everything in the minibar for a standard amount of just € 12 a day which was quite a good deal. There were about 12 beverages (including 2 beers), potato chips, peanuts, wine and chocolate which was replenished fully every day. Not a bad deal considering they usually charge 3,60 for a bottle of Coca Cola and there's really nothing in the immediate area to buy other (cheaper) drinks :)

The courteousness of the staff varied from extremely friendly to somewhat sturdy, All in all a pleasant stay but with some small glitches (shower, heavy doors) they'll hopefully attend to in the future after which I'll gladly award 5 stars :)
