There is something for everyone here, with a wide variety of restaurants and bars. In the past, most of these establishments were more or less all the same, selling beer and cheap, with seating at long tables and benches. This is changing, and there are now a lot more better quality dining restaurants, many of which are now serving food from places around the world, or fusion cuisine that mixes German food ingredients with items from other cultures. There is a great shop selling mustard, a "must see" if you are in the Altstadt....it has a mustard museum in the back. The marketplace is also worth a visit, there are a lot of interesting small "imbiss" options selling tasty food....some have been operating for decades. There is a lot of architectural variety in the facades for those visitors interested in art and architecture. The Rhine promenade is one one side, the Konigsalle on the other. Underneath the entire Altstadt is one huge parking garage with thousands of spaces. We would rate it as the best thing to see and do in Dusseldorf, definitely worth an afternoon and/or evening. Don't rush, take your time and absorb the atmosphere.
