“Ok place; close to "altstadt" and plenty of bars”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2011

We spent one night at Hotel Abode. As other posters have stated, it's a bit difficult to find (the entry door is next to Burger King). But once we found the door it was okay. They have tall narrow stairs so don't bring too much! There was a lady at the reception area so we didn't have to do the code thing to get our room key (although I'd e-mailed ahead of time and had the code handy just in case). Beware there is no street parking nearby. We parked in a garage (very close and safe) but expensive at Euro 20 for the night! Our room (B21) on the first floor was large and clean (although the old carpet needs cleaning or replacement). The bathroom was large, bright, and very clean. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was pretty good with the standard fare of brotchen, meats, cheeses, and such. Coffee was a bit weak though. If you're going to Dusseldorf to drink in the altstadt, the location of Abode can't be beat (exit, turn left, walk 10 meters, turn left again and there are the bars and restaurants). Surprisingly, and thankfully, despite the extreme close proximity, there was zero noise from the crowds as the room faces rooftops over what would be a courtyard. There is a metro stop directly outside the hotel entry so that would likely be the best way to get to/from the hotel. Live and learn and avoid the super expensive garage parking.

Room Tip: Make sure you DON'T get a room facing the street with the metro

Very nice hotel in the middle of the Altstadt. The concept is a bit unusual for me at least as it does not really have a reception but some staff that is there in the morning and in the evening a few hours. This has absolutely no effect on the quality of the hotel but do not expect to receive a lot of information about what to do and where to go. That being said, staff is very friendly and helpful when they are around even of you speak little German. The rooms are of a very generous size and include an ensuite bathroom and balcony we used a lot during the July 2010 heatwave. The rooms are sound proofed but even with the windows open you could barely hear any noise from the many bars and restaurants around.
You are offered a very nice breakfast in buffet style with bread, meats and cheeses
(and the occasional smoked salmon), cereals and a choice of drinks. There is free WIFI in the lobby which reaches some rooms as well.

The hotel is located smack in the middle of the shopping and bar district and a short walk from the Rhine river and its wonderful promenade. There is a metro station, tram stop right in front and there are a few night shops around as well.
This is a good hotel for a no nonsense stay where you just need a hotel to lay down your head and hit the town for the rest of the day. I will definitely stay here again.
