“Location is the key”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

Our short visit included things that took us to Wuppertal and Hagen as well as to Dortmund, so location was the major driver so far as hotel choice was concerned. The hotel is about 300 metres from Dortmund Hauptbahnhof, so the journeys to the nearby towns (by the brilliant German State Railway services) could be made totally painlessly. Services and facilities were what one would normally expect of a middle ranked hotel and so fully met our needs. Staff were friendly and helpful; rooms and public areas were spotlessly clean; breakfast - the German norm - was served in a pleasing room on the first floor for long hours catering for business people and tourists alike; the wifi signal was strong and so access was fast. Quibbles were fairly minor: as seems to be the norm for German hotels these days the only toiletries were liquid soaps in dispensers the bhe wash hand basin and the shower (so take your own if you prefer solid bars); as noted elsewhere, the chambermaids tend to turn off the heating when they've done their work leading to our room being freezing cold when we returned to it.

Stayed here for 1 night in January 2013. As we were moving on early next morning via the rail network the location was quite important. The Hauptbahnhof (Main Station) is a short walk (5 minutes max) and so is the city centre where the shops, restaurants and brewhouses are situated. The staff who greeted us upon arrival were very friendly and allowed us to check into our room earlier than the stated 2pm to drop the bags off. Didn't spend much time at all in the room but I had a comfortable nights sleep and the bathroom facilities were very good. For an extra €5 per person we added the breakfast onto our stay. This was the only disappointment as the range of hot food in the morning was quite limited (Sausages, boiled egg and scrambled egg) although there was a lot of cold alternatives such as a range of cereals, toast, croissants and a selection of meats. Would stay here again if I return to Dortmund.

I stayed here for 3 days. It is very close to the hauptbahnhof. Room was not bad. Heater was way too loud. It creates a constant background noise which is really annoying. You can hear your neighbors due to superthin walls. The room was almost always cold, because the cleaning ladies close the heater, after you leave the room. Breakfast was poor.

Very clean, helpful personel, very nice location, close to Central Station, shopping area, pubs,
24 hours reception, early breakfast, very good price especially if you book it in advance. Too bad we couldn't stay the second night because was fully booked because of Borusia Dortmund game. Perfect location for a city break.

This hotel has great location near main HBF in Dortmund and few minutes walk to the city center. Rooms are clean with tv, mini bar and safe. Bathroom is very good and has all you need. Employees are very pleasant and nice with good English (which is not an usual thing in Germany).

The hotel is just 5mins walk from Dortmund's main railway station and also 5mins walk from the shopping area of Dortmund (around Kampstrasse).

Breakfast starts very early, even before 6AM, so this is very convenient if you have to leave early. The selection is also very good.

For all this I paid less than 70 EUR per night so IMO the value for this price is more than good.

Only 2 small inconvenieces that I can mention:
- the elevator is small and if it's crowded in the lobby you'll have to wait a bit or use the stairs;
- the old building is refurbished but there is still a bit of smell in the room.

very friendly staff!!!
very good breakfast!!!
very close to city centre
and rail station
small but cosy

negative
The bed's are two separate bed's and in the middle is hard wood

a little dated but it has it's charm!

credit card machine did not work so my husband had to go to the nearest bank
later on I used the credit card at the rail station for tickets and it worked so there's probably something wrong with the hotels credit card machine?!

Don't stay there for rest it's noisy ( I think it's the casino next to the hotel) but we new that so it did not really bother us

advice to the hotel use some more romantic lights
lights in the bathroom were all to bright and so were the night lights
