For 55 EUR and 3 stars, the hotel was more than ok. It is in easy walking distance from the main station (although there are closer ones still), unfortunately, there seems to be no bus stop near. The noisy road outside did not bother me, I preferred the front room because there is a bit of a cathedral view. The room was booked as a single, but it was actually a double, and the size was fine. The bathroom was probably the tiniest I have ever seen, but new and clean (the whole hotel was refurbished in March 2007, so everything is still fresh). The window was strangely low, started at knee-height and ended at eye-level (and I am not especially tall). The room was one stair up, no elevator. Tough if you have heavy luggage or problems with stairs. The bar was a nice room. They made me a cappucino in 30 seconds at one in the morning, and I could take it to the room. Nice! Staff was friendly. Breakfast was a bit disappointing, had to ask for cup, knife, butter, rolls - they hardly managed to remove used plates from the tables, let alone refill the buffet. Of course, the same person had to deal with checkouts simultaneously. Breakfast offer itself was unmemorable. Payment in cash was strongly preferred against cards.
Other guest were mainly young people in couples and groups of various nations.
Never heard a single bell ring. If that bothers you, Cologne is probable not the right city for you.

Nice hotel, a few minutes walk from the station. Rooms are OK, maybe a little lack of aeration. Of course, as being close to the cathedral,
you can expect to hear the bells ringing from time to times but not every hour. Breakfast was really nice and staff was helpful. Bathroom was brand new with a shower. Good value for price!

“over priced”

This hotel was a bit of a disappointment in some ways. Website indicated only available room was a triple, however on arrival there were doubles available but we could not have one. This hotel has some problems if you have a disability. The website indicates that they have an elevator, however, it only goes as far as the third floor and after that it is stairs. It is a quaint place that is not without a certain charm. Breakfast is average Germanic breakfast, not too flash. On the positive side, the triple room is very large, more like a small apartment really. Staff are not unfriendly, but not overly helpful either. Location is pretty good, it is only a short walk from the Dom, the shopping centre and the main railway station. It is in a rather dark location, so might be a bit scary for the nervous at night.

small room, comfortable for the prize, my room extremely noisy because of the traffic outside. Watch out for the pay-per-view! Will cost you 11 euro if you watch more than some minutes. there seemed to be disorders with the payment routines.

“Basic but comfortable. Great for large groups...”

Stayed here for 3 nights in May 2007 as part of a pre-wedding (stag) party. Didn't expect great things for what we paid for the rooms but all 13 of us were pleasantly surprised by our stay - less than £90 (US$180 / €135 ) for three nights bed & breakfast. As has been recorded by another tripadvisor reviewer, this hotel used to be called the Amsterdam.

Rooms were comfortable and clean, if a little basic. En-suite bathroom facilities were fine. The only minor criticisms were that the rooms were uncomfortably warm and the rooms at the front of the hotel suffer from traffic noise unless the windows are kept closed. Having said that, the rooms at the rear of the hotel can be overwhelmed by church bells on a Sunday morning!!

The hotel is quite well placed for visiting the centre of Cologne and is a 5-10 minute walk from the railway station and Cologne Cathedral. There is no parking (other than streets or car parks) but the public transport system from Cologne airport to the city centre is very good. I'm certain the train fare is about €3. Taxi fare is almost €30.

Hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. Even when the group arrived back at 3am, the night staff were happy to serve drinks from the bar and serve basic snacks. Breakfasts were officially served until 10am although they ran beyond this all three mornings we were there. Continental breakfast served, although early risers can take advantage of the scrambled eggs, which invariably ran out long before 10am!

All in all, a good hotel as a base for sightseeing etc. but look elsewhere if you want something romantic or grand.
