“Enjoyed our stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2011

My husband and I stayed here for 6 days to attend the ANUGA food show in October. The location of the hotel was perfect for our use. We were a few blocks from 2 different subway lines. We were able to get to the Koelnmesse/Lanxess Arena in about 10 minutes, no problem. If you plan to buy subway tickets at the stop, be sure to have exact change in coins. The Dom and all the museums were located about a mile away, but very easy to walk to. There were plenty of restaurants, pubs and shopping near the hotel for all our needs. One nice perk was the bakery right next door. It was nice to wake up to the smell of fresh bread everyday. Most of the restaurants in the area had staff that spoke English, the hotel staff here also spoke English. It was really a nice neighborhood away from all the busy tourist attractions by the Dom. One of the local waitresses told me that a lot of rich people live in that neighborhood, so it was pretty safe and quiet. We had a double room with a private bathroom in the room. Most of the rooms had separate bathrooms across the hall, but each room had it's own bathroom that could only be accessed with your key. You don't have to share with other guests. The room was very basic and small. 2 single beds with foam Temperpedic mattresses, which were, surprisingly, very comfortable. A TV, small work desk, safe and a small closet. There were no extra amenities other than liquid soap in the bathroom. No blowdryer and no alarm clock in the room. We had a cute little balcony, which was great to have since we both smoke. The breakfast was a variety of breads, cold meats, cheese, eggs, sausage, crepes, fruit, yogurt, oatmeal and cereals. Fresh OJ and coffee. They also had a nice eating area with enough room for everyone. It was a pleasant experience for our first time in Germany. If we go back, we will definitely try to stay here again.

Room Tip: Room 14 has a balcony facing the main street and it's own bathroom.

The Accent is a very basic hotel. It's like an american boarding house. This is not a luxury property, but you're not paying luxury prices! I felt safe and relaxed. The private bath was very clean and my single bed room very basic and small, hallway carpets are a bit worn. It was absolutely fine for 1 person. The subway is a mere 2 blks away and a Kaiser Grocery is a block away. The staff was lovely to me and I would recommend the hotel to seasoned travelers who don't need all the bells and whistles of an american hotel. The breakfast was the best part of the stay..a great variety of foods and included in your stay!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2008

I enjoyed my one-night stay in this little family hotel, which for me had only one big disadvantage: noise. Some of the rooms have their bathroom across the hall. So, several times a night and early in the morning there will be keys turning in locks and the slamming of doors. Other than that, this is a charming place that probably saw its last renovation in the late 80s. Turquoise and violet are very present in the interior design... My room was clean, the bathroom was well fitted, and the mattress was nice and firm. The breakfast held only nice surprises: good bread, wide choice of sweet and salty stuff, as well as fresh fruit. Staff are chatty and friendly, giving the place a typically open and warm Cologne feel.
