“Disappointing stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

Booked this hotel whilst visiting the PMW Expo in Cologne and wanted to stay in the old town. Staff were friendly enough but I had booked a twin room, however was given a double. We did get moved but were put on the next floor down, which wasn't as nice. The hotel is in need of some updating in terms of fixtures and fittings, in addition the tv's which are quite dated! We arrived later in the evening and had a drinks reception in town, but asked Concierge if we could book a table in the restaurant for later, but were told it was closed! We were advised to try the adjoining bar, Harry's New York Bar, which served food - but I wanted to eat in a restaurant, not a bar!! The next morning we enjoyed a good selection on offer for Breakfast but were shocked at the £25 per head bill!!! Overall a very disappointing stay.

The Dorint Hotel Koln is a large hotel and their main focus is on business man and woman, nevertheless it is a great hotel if you want tp discover the centre of Koln. The location is really perfect! You can park your car (free) in the parking lot. You won't need your car. From the hotel is is just a 1 minute walk and you are in the city centre. Their are lots of different shops, bakeries and things to see. You've got to visit the Cathedral. Is is impressive to see and the religious services come with a explanation in different languages.

The rooms are nice, with everything you need, Although you are in the city centre, there is absolutely no noise. The bar in the hotel is nice. the have great cocktails and a DJ. We've had a great time. This was the best way for us to discover Koln.

I stayed at this hotel last year in autumn when on business to Cologne. Very convinient location, great rooms and breakfast. I have decided to stay there again this time and made a reservation for 2 nights. Unfortunately my flight was cancelled due to weather conditions and the penalty free cancellation had to be made 2 days prior to arrival. I made an international call to cancell 24 hours before my arrival. According to conditions, I had to pay 90% of the room rate of the first night. My cancellation was handled by Mr Tim Mero and I was expecting to pay 90% of one night, but later I received an e-mail from Tim saying that they sympathize with my flight cancellation and that they would not charge any fee. After being frustrated with all the flight problems, it was a good suprise! I thought: what a customer orinted hotel, and for sure when I go to Cologne again, I will stay only at this hotel. They have my lifetime loyalty.

This is an excellent hotel if you are visiting Cologne on a city break or for an exhibition at koelnmesse. The staff are very good and helpful. The breakfast is excellent, probably one of the best I have had in Germany. I stayed for 5 days here with my wife and she found it to be an excellent base for shopping and visiting the sites etc.
Make sure you get a B&B deal as breakfast is €24 each otherwise. Shop around for deals as the hotel can be very expensive. The bar is absolutely dead in the week but comes alive at the weekend, especially Saturday night when the atmosphere is superb with good entertainment. The tram system is right outside the hotel and there are roadworks for the train system everywhere. I still found it easy to drive round the city.

Stayed here for 2 nights in July, the location is great for shopping, being just a short walk away from the 2 main shopping areas.
There are building works going on right in front of the Hotel for the underground trains which does cause some noise during the day but its quiet overnight which is the main thing.
The hotel has a Harrys bar on site but found it soul less and very expensive.
The rooms are a bit tired especially the huge old style tv but the bed was very comfortable, strange arrangement with the bathroom window but at least you could close the blind.
Breakfast was good but spread out over quite a large area. Didnt use the health club so cannot comment.
The staff are very helpful though.

Room Tip: Try and get a room away from the front of the hotel

A delightful hotel with great staff and extremely well located for tourism and work! I didn't get a chance to try out the wellness and pool but am sure it would been great. Can recommend it as it is nice and quiet despite the main road nearby.
