“Good hostel in a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

This is a good standard hostel in a very good location near the centre of Koln. The staff were all helpful and friendly, check-in was a breeze even though it was late at night. We had booked a 4 bed private room with it's own shower/toilet. The room was not huge but plenty big enough for us, the beds were comfy and the whole place was very clean and well looked after. The breakfast area is small but there is an upstairs (smoking) lounge and if you don't want breakfast at the hostel there are many places locally that can provide good food at reasonable prices. Don't forget that this is a hostel and not a hotel - remember the price you are paying before complaining about the standards. For the cost it is a good standard hostel in an excellent location close to the main station, cathedral and good bars/restaurants - especially down by the river area...

Did not like this place. The corridors reminded me of a prison with very basic rooms. Our stay was severely upset by a few significant factors. Firstly, we checked in just after 2pm and discovered the cleaner had abanondoned our room leaving us having to wait til she was finished. Then, the next morning at about 10am (before the 12pm checkout) a cleaner came into our room whilst we were not suitably clothed. We were very angry and complained to the reception .
Some of the men staying there were quite creepy and I was glad I had my husband with me.

The staff is super friendly and if you have any questions they have lots of information for you. The rooms are neat and clean with plenty of electrical outlets for all your electrical needs. Nice clean bathrooms as well as what looks like a good breakfast (you have to pay for it but it's super cheap) I never had breakfast but I'm not a breakfast person sooooo there you have it. The location is really fantastic as it is very near the train station and walking distance to everything you will want to see in Cologne's city center. If and when I am back in Koln (Cologne) I will definitely be giving these guys a call to book a room. P.S. If you can get a room on the top floor . . . there is a pretty cool view of the station.

This really was one of the best hostel experiences I've ever had. I was in town for Amphi Festival and my friend recommended this place because it was cheap and close to the train station (you can hear the train station announcements from the shower). We stayed in a 6 bed mixed dorm. Everyone in the room was a festival goer and they were really nice.

There is a nice lobby downstairs with 3 computers with fast, free internet access. The staff was very friendly and there are several drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) for sale. I had a great time hanging out in the lobby and met a lot of awesome people, but the purpose of coming here was to sleep. The bed were extremely hard, I didn't even realize until I woke up and couldn't move. The showers were clean, but you had to keep turning the water back on and in the shower I chose, the door had warped and I had a hard time getting out. The shower area doesn't really have an area to change your clothes without getting a least a little wet (connected floor). There also wasn't a good place to brush your teeth, you would have had to do it in the toilet. THEN, the next day I wandered over to the rooms on the other side of the hall and found out they had a much nicer restroom with sinks specifically for brushing your teeth, etc. So, you might have to wander around for a good bathroom.

The lockers in the room are tiny and you have to rent the keys to them from the front desk. If you want a bigger locker or one you could use a padlock on, you have to walk down the hall. There is a kitchen, but I didn't even look at it. They have a breakfast buffet available for a fee, but I opted not to do it.

This place was great... except the terrible beds and for that reason alone I'd really give this place a 3.5.

I loved the location of this hostel -- if you were ever lost in Koln, you could just look up for the Dom's spires and find your way back. Completely close to the train station and the Koln Dom Cathedral, food, the Neumarkt, and only a 25 minute walk to the Chocolate Museum. We stayed in a six bed room, and the only complaint I had is that some of the roomies were loud coming in at around 3 am, but that's not the hostel's fault -- such is the life of staying in a hostel. Beds were average and what was expected of a hostel, the pillows however, were a little lacking...like completely flat and providing no support lacking, at least the ones in our room. That's the only thing I would have changed.

Room Tip: If you like head support at night, bring your own pillow.

We found this hostel very nice. Location is very good - close to the station, close to the Cologne Cathedral, close to the tourist places, and close to the supermarket, were you can buy food (Cooking by yourself at hostel kitchen, instead of going to cafe, saves a lot of money). Staff is friendly and helpful. Free Wi-Fi in the lobby, in the kitchen, in the dining room. Also there are 3 free computers with internet beside the bar. There are lockers in the basement, washing machine (not free), place to iron your clothes. You can keep yourself clean and tidy :) You can even take umbrella at the reception!
We liked this hostel. It's not expensive, and it has perfect location.

This is one of four hostels that I have stayed in when visiting Cologne and I would say it's by far the worst. While I cannot fault the location (right behind the Hauptbahnhof, steps away from the Cathedral) everything else was below standard for the price we payed in comparison to other hostels. The rooms were cold and very musty, and the mattresses were thin and uncomfortable. Having said that, the free Internet in reception was a nice surprise and the staff were very helpful and accommodating but I would not stay here again. There are much nicer hostels in the area for the same price.
