“Good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

Stayed in a shared bathroom room on the second (third for Americans) floor. Room was average size with windows facing the front of the hotel (not a problem - street was extremely quiet at night). Everything was extremely clean. Very helpful staff. Held luggage after checkout. Easy 5 minute walk to Hbf.

AMAZING breakfast buffet. Good coffee. Everyone gets a hardboiled egg. Great selection of breads, pastries, cereals, cold cuts, juice, etc.

Top tips when staying at the Brandenburger Hof:

Great location, a short 5 minute walk from the Cologne Hauptbahnhof. Nice reception staff, and very good breakfast (served from 7-10am).

Some of the rooms are extremely small, the size of a jail cell, but given the price of the rooms here can you expect more? No air conditioning. My only big complaint: They do not like accepting credit cards. On one stay, they pretended the machine didn't work. On the second, they flat out told me "no credit cards." Just tell them "OK, I will come back tomorrow with some cash." Credit card suddenly accepted. I've stayed at hundreds of hotels in cities around the world, and this is the first that has ever had a no-credit-card policy.

Room Tip: During warm summer

Only a couple of minutes from the station but in a quiet and extremely pleasant location. Good room, excellent breakfast with garden area for the summer. Really pleasant stay, and that side of Cologne is worth exploring.

I would like to share my experience in staying at Brandenburger Hof Hotel in Cologne earlier this year (January 2013). I have been staying in this hotel, every year, since 2007 so this property feels like my 2nd home abroad.

As usual, upon my arrival in Cologne Hbf, I walked straight away to the hotel which was located no more than 3 blocks away (approx. 10-12 mins. walk with luggage: approx. 5 mins. without luggage). In Cologne Hbf, I took the back exit (away from Dom) and walked straight 2 blocks towards Marriott Hotel and turned left before reaching Marriott Hotel where we could easily find the hotel in our left side.

From the corner, we would see Muller Hotel, Ludwig Hotel and finally Berg Hotel, the last hotel next to Brandenburger Hof Hotel. Brandenburger Hof is an old building converted into a hotel but the way the owner did was very nice and definitely, they did a good in job in maintaining their property over the years. It was homy and most (if not all) staffs were friendly.

They offer different rooms for different guests : They have rooms for 1, 2 or even 3 persons sharing the room, with or without the bathroom. We can share the bathroom outside the room and it will cost cheaper than those rooms that have the bathrooms inside the room. They also provide complimentary (good selection) breakfast every morning.

The only downside of this hotel was the quality of the mattresses they use : It was old, sagging and not too comfortable. I would definitely give this property a higher rating should I find an improvement on this issue by the hotel's owner in the future.

Despite such downside, I sincerely believe this hotel may be one of the hidden gems in town considering its location, quality of the property and service all staffs have provided especially during peak season where it's quite hard to find a good hotel in town during that period of time and definitely, it's really worth it in staying there for a couple of days to get the experience.

Room Tip: Get a room downstairs as this property does not have any elevator and they even have two rooms facin...

Easy stroll from Koln Central Station with luggage. No lift, so check which floor you are on if you have mobility issues. Staff could not have been more helpful. Very respectful of my rusty school German language attempts and then replied in fluent English. The rooms are a bit old but clean and comfortable, and good value for money. Ensure you leave plenty of time to enjoy the magnificent breakfast buffet.

Room Tip: No lift, several flights of stairs to climb.

LOCATION:
The hotels location is absolutely excellent approximately 5 to 10 min walk from Central Train station. About 90% of Cologne's attractions are also within walking distances.

SERVICE:
The hotel staff is very friendly and accommodating, had the room ready two hours before check-in time. Everyone I spoke to spoke fair English, communication was not a problem.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
The room was a good size with double bed and bathroom. (This hotel also offers rooms with shared bathroom for a reduced price). Bathroom was a fair size with shower only no bathtub. My booking deal also included continental breakfast witch had a several more choices then most places I stayed at.

OVERALL RECOMMENDATION:
This hotel was one of the most affordable places I could find at the time of my travel and it definitely was a good choice. I most definitely recommend it.

This was one of the most pleasant hotels we stayed in on a recent 5 week trip in Europe. The hotel is very close to the train station and thus the cathedral and city centre. The bathroom was brand new and the room while a little dated was very comfortable, light, warm and very clean. The breakfast buffet was huge and best of all the staff were really friendly and helpful. When we arrived from Brussels we were able to get into our room early, the owner gave us a map of the city and we were off to do our sightseeing! I would definitely stay there again if in Cologne.
