“One night stay but could easily stay longer”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

Booked this hotel as an overnight stop on our rail journey from London to Salzburg. We got a very good deal with an online advance booking. From other reviews we knew that the location of the hotel would be convenient for the railway station which we needed as we had an early start the next day. We were intrigued by the comments made by some other reviewers but decided that on balance they were favourable and we were not disappointed. Even with suitcases we walked from the station to the hotel in no more than 10 minutes. On our arrival we were greeted by friendly and helpful reception staff who spoke excellent english. Our room was on the first floor and faced the main road which some reviewers have found to be disturbing, however, even with the windows open we didn't find it to be a problem. The bed was one of the most comfortable of any in which we have slept. The furnishings and decor have been described as 'wacky', yes they are slightly but we prefer that to something bland or formulaic. Everything was clean and in order. Breakfast was the usual continental buffet style, varied, plentiful and of good quality. We would certainly choose this hotel again for either an overnight break or a longer stay in Cologne.

Very cheap hotel, with an amazing breakfast. It is located about 400 m from the main train station. Neighborhood is not bad but its kind of dark at night. My room faced the street and there was no fence or security bars at all so I needed to keep the window closed when out. The room had this old, musty 70's smell. I bought a can of freshener to get rid of it. I went out and when I returned, cleaning staff had taken my can. apparently they thought it was theirs. The TV looks like something out of the 1960's. Small and freaky. Internet was VERY fast (about 10 MB). The hotel in general a grey atmosphere. It was cheap so I dont complain but Ive been in better hotels.

This hotel offers simple, basic accommodation in a good location - it's very clean, and with all you need for an overnight stay. Excellent breakfast - a good variety and plentiful. The staff are helpful and friendly, and all in all it is good value for money.

We had a gereat weekend in the Hotel Cristall. V close to railway line and busy underpass but we booked an upgraded room with double glazing and air con so we were oblivious to any noise. The reception staff were v good. We arrived at about 11.30 am and asked if our room was ready - it wasnt but she made us a coffee and suggested we sit in the comfy modern sofas for about 30 mins and it would be. It was. Free wifi. Huge room with big bed and wall hung TV. Gummi bears on the pillow were a fun touch. Big bottle of fizzy water was a good touch too. Big bathroom with walk in shower. Couldnt fault the room - we were in what appears to be an annexe but with just 4 rooms on each floor this was v quiet. Breakfast was plentiful and served at till sensible hours - perfect for the weekender. The centre of Cologne is only 10 minutes or so walk - including the Dom. We had a great weekend and would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a central location at a reasonable price. But book an upgraded room so you have the peace and quiet too.

Room Tip: book the upgraded rooms - air con and double glazing will add to your experience

Good location indeed. Just 5 mins walk from koln Hbf. And closed to the cologne cathedral. Lots of shops and restaurants nearby.
Staffs of reception are ok.
Room is big enough, but with tiny bathroom. Bathroom is clean but the shower tub drained very very slow...
There WAS an air-con machine... with wire-cut. So, I need to open the window to breath. It caused the noisy room.
The 2 reasons for me to choose this hotel are : location + free wifi .
I won't recommend to friends , ESP during summer...

Very noisy from the road all night. Have had about 4 hours sleep. Don't even
Think about opening a window. I should have brought some earplugs.

Small but overpriced room (this is during the biggest camera fair in the world so everywhere very busy and at top rates). Comfortable twin beds but terrible pillows. Noisy a/c unit.

A smoking room even though I'd booked a non-smoking, but hotel completely full.

Small bathroom and shower with cheap nylon curtain.

Odd arrangement in room where there is a print of an old master, on an easel. Not sure what that's all about.

Reasonably fixed minibar (€2.50 for a bottle of beer) but no other creature comforts.

The hardcore porn channel which came on the TV when I turned it on at 17:30 was a nice touch, but might have required some explanation had I had children here.

Good, fast, free wifi do Radio4 available via iPhone.

Would not stay here again.

Great Location, and just 2 blocks from Central Terminal and from all the major Tourist attractions. Room big but outdated, clean and breakfast are excellent, WiFi great! Good value Hotel. There are several restaurants near by, particularly there is a Italian restaurant at 80 yards from the hotel towards the cathedral, Excellent food.

Room Tip: Look for 2-3 floor rooms less noise
