“Noisy room otherwise OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012

Booked through Expedia at last minute as the originally booked Marriott let me know that it's changing management. Didn't have too much expectation as the rate is very good. The room was indeed noisy as some of the comments suggested, as I was given a small room directly facing the traffic. To make it worse the aircon wasn't quiet either. The room facility is otherwise fine but no kettle. Breakfast is actually pretty decent. The location is unbeatable for a short distance away from train station. Overall not much else to complain but avoid noisy rooms at any cost.

Room Tip: Rooms not facing the main traffic might be quieter.

Renovated Hotel. Modern fancy decor. Friendly competent staff. Located perfectly in relation to the station, cathedral and shopping. We got a large room at the top with sloping walls. Very clean and nice. Absolute top class rated in relation to price

Nice modern hotel. My room and bathroom were clean. The bed could have been a bit more comfy though, but it was fine for a few nights. I requested a room at the back of the hotel and it was quiet. Some of the rooms in this hotel are nearer a main road.

The breakfast buffet was included in the price and there was a lot of choice from cereals to cheese, eggs, freshly prepared fruit and juices.

I would use this hotel again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the rear of the hotel

Hotel Cristal is a short walk from Center City Koln, and very clean and very modern. Hotel rates were very reasonable.

There is an on-site restaurant & Bar, and breakfast is served every morning (typical traditional German Breakfast - breads, meats, cheeses, juices, etc). You can also easily walk to many other Restaurants in the city.

Parking is very limited, and you may have to simply park on the street (parallel of course).

There is also a Grocery Store just around the corner, if you'd like to buy and keep any foods/beverages on hand.

The rooms are typical "European size" and were spacious enough for just me, and might have been OK for even a couple. If you are traveling as a family, you may definitely want to consider multiple rooms.

My room was quiet, and I was on the second floor, so I don't think there is likely any issues with noise.

We stayed here again while attending the Amphi Festival in July. Rooms were clean & nicely decorated - I like the way the mirror is hidden behind a painting. We did not have a room facing the road so it was quiet, except for the Church bells. Free wifi, though we only used it for one day as we were hardly in the hotel except to sleep. Only downside with the bed are the pillows, I'm used to a firm one so I ended up scrunching mine into a ball. Breakfast was good & staff were quick to replace the milk when it ran out while I was filling my bowl. All in all a pleasant hotel with helpful staff.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not facing the road, it's quieter

If you are looking for a nice affordable 3-star hotel near (approx. 5 min. walk) the city center, this hotel might be something for you. Rooms are quite small but they look nice. This also counts for the bathroom. The breakfast buffet is superb! Fresh juices, a big variaty of eggs/cold meat/cheese and bread etc,
The only disadventage I found was the fact of having no airco or ventilator in the room. Because of the good weather it was to hot to have a good nite rest in it.

I stayed at this hotel for one night after spending a few days at the Moselle region. We had booked a comfort room and it was good: nice bed and shower, as well as a large TV and working desk (complementary WIFI). Breakfast also ok: good choice of fresh products. Issues that we had: in-room fridge not working and no elevator going up to the floor where our room was located (dragging heavy luggage). But the thing that really annoyed me was the lack of parking and the misleading information on their website, which gives the impression that a public parking lot (Parkhaus Breslauer Platz) is just accross the street from the hotel. This is not the case; in fact this so-called Breslauer Platz Parkhaus does not seem to exist, instead you have to park your car at the Dom Parkhaus, which is quite a long walk away, especially if you have a lot of luggage. In general, driving in Cologne is a nightmare with all the roadworks going on at the moment and - what I find - very bad signalisation. We lost one hour and a half of time, so make sure to investigate properly before leaving for Cologne.
