“OLD but CENTRAL”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

This hotel has 4 stars but I think that was valid sometime in the 80's... So in today's market I'd ranked this hotel to a 3 star maybe 3 star superior. However, it has great location, very close to the DOM and the shoping streets. CENTRAL STATION is also 5 minutes walk away so you might avoid paying a taxi from the airport about 35 euro... My recomandation is that if you get a good rate, you might choose this hotel!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing away from the street, it might get noisy because of moderate trafik

The outside looking of this hotel is quite old and retro. The cute red chairs and white interior space. It looks clean and nice. I was pleased to stay the hotel for three nights! It is very comfortable. The elevator is old retro style with doors and key for the security reason. The bathroom is clean. It was probably built in 50's. The location of this hotel is perfect. One of the famous sightseeing place, City Hall (Rathaus) is almost across the street! The hotel is so close to the main train station (Köln hbf), Cologne cathedral (DOM) and Ludvig art museum. Famous German pubs such as Brauhaus Sion, Pfaffen-Brauerei Max Päffgen, Haxenhaus, etc. are also close to the hotel. If you love shopping the shopping arcade is one block away, and the shopping district is 3 minutes away. Perfect location with comfort and fair price!!
I love this hotel. (^_^)

As another reviewer said, this hotel is not luxurious, but it fit the bill for everything we needed. Very clean, courteous staff, wonderful breakfast was included in the very reasonable price of the room. And location couldn't have been any better. I would definitely stay here again.

Family with small kids, stayed there for 3 nights. Really cute hotel with some vintage details (elevator, doors etc). Very close to Dom and Hbf, very good service and good staff. Especially liked always smiling staff in hotels restoran each morning. Very clean hotel.

Do not consider this a 3 or 4 star hotel. The rooms were neat and the beds good but the place was not luxurious at all. Breakfast was mediocre but the restaurant is pretty. Location is very good but there are other hotels nearby that I would choose next time. Need some updating. it was clean and just okay.

I booked this hotel for one overnight stay, without knowing exactly what to expect. Location was superb, parking available, excellent service, big room, great breakfast. Value for money! I highly recommend it.
The only "weak" point: Small and poorly equipped bathroom.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street might be noisy

3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

This hotel had the best location in cologne! It was no lie, about 500ft away from the Dom (Cathedral)! And to walk up the Dom, it was 3 euro per person, all 570 steps NOT TO BE MISSED! The rooms were not bad, just like 1970 's remake. The beds were pushed together, so if you are in a twin bed, it looks like you had a king bed with two mattress. And they just separated them for twins. There is a minibar and refrigerated in the rooms. The cokes and the water were complimentary, but the beer and wine were not. The minibar was refilled once a day. The hotel was in walking distance to all kinds of restaurants and the shopping district. The hotel has their own garage, it is literally behind the hotel and it is only one lot for about 7 cars. There was a bar on the second floor of the hotel, the drinks were good. I became addicted to the Hugo drinks, but the bar was extremely over priced. I went to dinner to BRAUEREI ZUR MALZMOHLE, it was great, incredible German food and vibe. In the hotel rooms, some had bath tubes and others had showers, but they both required a step up. So, be careful it was easy to slip. The location of the hotel was in walking distance of the river (Rhein), and should not be missed. Walk down the Deutzer Brucke (bridge) then walk down the opposing water front then cross Hohenzollern bruicke (huge bridge) back to the hotel. It's a beautful veiw of the Dom. They had a cold continental breakfast followed by a hot a la chart breakfast. All included in room price. The cold continental consisted of meats( turkey, ham), cheeses, and breads. And the hot a la chart had eggs and sausage. They offered coffee and tea (Earl grey). Also, the hotel used two elevators that took you to all the floors, these elevators were OLD! they required a key to be inserted to be used and there is an outside door you open to get into them (kind of like a closet). The elevators were small and could only hold three people, one with luggage. There are steps. The rooms used metal keys, and not plastic cards. My room did have a tv, but no English speaking channels.
