“Business Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

The hotel is very well located since it is 1 min away from the main place where you can find restaurants, 5 min away from the shopping street and 10min away from the Dom. Rooms are big, food is good, breakfast is excellent. Good for businessmen.

My husband and I stayed at the Maritim in Cologne for 5 nights while he was on a business trip. Compared to the rooms in London and Paris we experienced on this trip, this room was enormous and very comparable to generous sized rooms in the United States. Our room faced the interior courtyard which suited us because it was quiet and warmer than the exterior facing rooms. Our travel companions had an exterior room that faced the Dom cathedral. Their view was quite lovely, but the winter chill was definitely more evident in their room.

I can't say enough good things about how wonderful the location of this hotel is. You're right on the Rhine and in short walking distance to the Dom, the Chocolate Museum, the Museum Ludwig, the train station, shopping, and three Christmas markets if you're visiting in December.

The front desk staff was always friendly and glad to help us with sightseeing directions and recommendations. We also ate breakfast at the hotel restaurant daily and were pleased with the quality and variety of the food. Overall, a great stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the Dom or the Rhine.

I spent a weekend in Köln Maritim Hotel . I was quite disappointed about the price to pay relatively to the quality of service and facilities offered .
I was with a friend and we intended to go to Restaurant Bellevue for a dinner. We were told the restaurant was full . The alternative was a brasserie , quite agreable but with only snacks like curry wurst, bock wurst, .....not really what i expected from such an hotel.
The room was clean but quite small and noisy. The service personnel in rooms was very agreable and efficient . The piano bar was crowded and noisy as well , many of the persons , many of them smoking quite a lot.Not really a cosy piano bar......
As a conclusion I should not recommend this hotel .The price to pay is to high for what you get . In the past i went many times to Maritim hotels ; I was very happy with the quality of service. Maybe times are changing......

Room Tip: dont choise a room loojing on the Rhein river: too noisy

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of a Christmas Market break. As Cologne has 7 markets at Christmas time we were spoilt for choice. We had a room on the 1st floor, which I had emailed the hotel before we arrived and requested. My request was dealt with very quickly. Our room was very nice with plenty of space for the two of us, and was cleaned to a very high standard every day. We loved how the chambermaid folded our pj's. As with most European hotels there was not a kettle in the room, but we are used to this now and take our own. Entry to lifts is accessed by your room cards.
The hotel has a small indoor pool which we did not use, but it did look very inviting. We ate for the 3 nights we were at the hotel in the Kolsche Stuff Restaurant within the hotel. The food was very nice and we have to say a big thank you to the waiting staff.
The breakfast is served at the back of the hotel over looking the Rhine, we were lucky enough to get a table by the window every morning. The breakfast buffet is amazing I have never seen so much choice. The coffee was served at the table and was a very good cup of coffee. You served yourselves from the buffet going back as many times as you wanted.
All in all we had a lovely long weekend at The Maritim and are now saving to go back again next Christmas. Many thanks to all the staff.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel overlook the Rhine

My room was fine with a view of the Rhine. Although the hotel is adjacent to very busy roads the room was quiet although a little stuffy. Internet connection is 15 euros - I wish hotels would treat internet connections like any other key service such as tv, electric lights and hairdryers, it doesn't cost them any more for guests to use it so why isn't it included? Also I would have liked to have a kettle in the room. Dining in the hotel is limited and the conference I attended told us that we would have to go out to eat as the hotel lacked the capacity for the numbers attending - as there is a large seating where breakfast is served area right outside the conference rooms I fail to understand why the hotel does not make use of this to cater for conference guests. Smoking is allowed in the public areas of the hotel, whether this is good or bad depends if you smoke. Staff were very friendly and helpful and there is a business suite with access to printers, computer, fax etc;

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel for a river view.

In my opinion, this hotel has all you want for a stay in Cologne. It is central, it is next to the Altstadt for restaurants and bars, it is next to the main shopping area and within 5 minutes walk of all main central points of interest. It may have a slightly dated feel to it but that is not a problem provided all the services are delivered efficiently which during my stay they were. It is still a smart looking hotel. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. There are restaurants and bars in the hotel if required and in particular the Piano Bar offers a place to go until the early hours.

Room Tip: Go for a high floor with your room facing into the hotel atrium.

We arrived before check-in time of 3 pm so had to drop off our bags and walk around until the designated time. While the river-side location is not close to the main train station/Cologne Cathedral, it is still within walking distance and close to the main shopping street. The hotel's main feature is a large central covered atrium. When we were checking-in, other people were still being told to wait until their room is ready. We got a room on the 1st floor but no mention was made to use a small side elevator. After struggling with our luggage to find the room, we had to return to the reception desk to find out how to get to our room. The room was rather generic but quiet, clean and has all the basic amenities for such hotel category (no safe though). The hotel has a good spread for its breakfast buffet but can be quite busy particularly during the weekend. The staff there makes an effort but it can be controlled chaos. I checked the reception desk for information on taxi to the airport. She gave me the wrong information but corrected herself after being told by nearby staff (in German). Nothing memorable about the stay so may consider another place if I ever return to Cologne.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask how to access your room if on the 1st or 2nd floor.
