Best thing about Camping Berger is definitely their washing and cooking facilities. Good toilet and shower facilities that are very big- you would never have to wait- and with about 6 mini bathrooms with toilet, sink and shower in one, which you don't normally get in campsites as well as other showers.
The campsite also runs a neighbouring hotel so they have more facilities, such as the restaurant, because of that. They also have a kitchen area with gas hobs to use and area to wash up your plates etc.
The gate is closed after 11pm so if you intend to go out in your car you need to be back before that. We got caught out one night and just park outside and walked in as our tent was already set up.
The area is very picturesque being right next to the river and having a lovely park area alongside. It's a 10 min walk to the bus stop and then a short bus ride to the underground station to get into central Koln.
Only issue with the campsite is that a lot of people there are campers in campervans rather than tents, but the tents pitch alongside everyone else. Not a problem, and you can then park right next to your tent, but a little bit clasutrophobic if you're just a small tent and the paths between the tents/campervans were very muddy (due to heavy rain and campervans driving between the sites).
It seems like a campsite that has an older crowd as well - people doing campervan holidays and staying in one place for a longer length of time. A lot of the people we saw there didn't appear to leave the campsite during the day and there wasn't much going on in a sociable way.
Overall, a good quality campsite with helpful staff, but pretty quiet and more orientated to campervans than tents.
