Stayed here with elderly father and friends. Good location near to river, city centre and chocolate museum. Staff very friendly and helpful.Spotlessly clean rooms with good showers although a bath would have been nice. Good size single rooms which made a pleasant change. Addition of coffee and tea making facilities would have made this perfect. Pool looked good but ran out of time so didn't use it. Breakfast was excellent for this grade of hotel - especially if you're a fruit lover!

“Lovely Hotel”

We stayed two nights in early May. Martina in Reception very efficient and helpful, both before our trip when I was sending emails, and during our stay. We found all the staff to be very courteous and friendly. After a long flight, we arrived at the hotel about two hours before check in. However, we only had to wait about 15 minutes and our room was ready. That was very much appreciated.

This lovely hotel is situated about 15 minutes walking distance from the CBD, or about 5 minutes in a taxi. Also within 5 minutes walk away are many pubs, eateries, shops etc.

Our room was very spacious and very clean, with good comfortable beds and pillows, ample storage space, and a safe. Lovely bathroom, good shower rose and water pressure. Good amenities. The European tilt/open windows are awesome, and we had a wonderful view of the Dom Cathedral, Rhine River and bridge from our room. There was a bit of traffic noise, however once the windows were closed, you couldn't hear a thing. Very impressed. We had no noise from other guests during the night which was also good.

Had a decent flat screen tv, however the only english speaking channel was CNN. This had nothing to do with the hotel, as we experienced this at other hotels in Germany. Even to have had sub titles would have been good...

Breakfast was 17 Euros though there was a great selection and their breakfast room was lovely, as were the girls who served us. They couldn't do enough for us, even managing to get some wheat free bread in for me in short notice. Much appreciated.

Tip - take a German/English dictionary/phrase book with you (or whatever language you speak) everywhere in Germany, as we found this to be very helpful.

Will definitely be staying here again if we are ever in Cologne.

The hotel is roughly a 7 euro taxi journey from the central train station and when we arrived I was not alarmed at the fact that that hotel did not look stunning from the outside due to having read lots of good things about it on this website.

Having stayed at the hotel for two nights I was very impressed with everything that the hotel had to offer. The staff in the reception area were very professional and helpful, most notably when I left my jacket in the bar area - oops!! The hotel was easily within walking distance of the old town and the dom and shopping districts were only a couple of stops away on the excellent tram network.

It is evident that the hotel has been recently refurbished and it was immaculately clean. Our room wasn't the biggest, but it was very comfortable and practical with an excellent shower. While we tucked into the excellent and generous buffet that was on offer, the rooms were made up to a high standard.

Other bonuses included the well maintained swimming pool/sauna area (there's also a gym) and the apples that guests can help themselves to as they please!

All in all it was excellent value at roughly £75 a night and the hotel is functional enough to recommend for anything from business trips to romantic weekends.

    • Liked — Everything was so good for the money that nothing stands out, maybe the pool/sauna area
    • Disliked — Can't think of anything to put here, maybe the view from the window, but that's getting desperate

“Hotel Lyskirchen is a Gem”

Hotel Lyskirchen

We stayed in Cologne for 2 nights ($140/night) with the intention to use it as a base for sightseeing in the area. As it turned out, we had to spend most of our time in Cologne, but the Hotel Lyskirchen made our stay very pleasant.

The location is great - situated right along the Rhine River and adjacent to the Chocolate Museum/Factory. The heart of the city is only a 15 minute walk and we had a great view from our room of one of the many Roman Towers in the city. The hotel is very discrete from the outside, but the Lyskirchen defines boutique hotel on the inside. The lobby and breakfast area are beautiful and our room was magnificent. It was plenty spacious and had several unique features that we had never seen in other rooms. The most unusual and welcomed feature was a glass shower that could be seen through in the room area. Basically, it was a voyeurs dream come true. For modest people, there is a curtain that can be used to cover up the shower. The beds and pillows in the hotel are great and we had no problems sleeping. The minibar was well stocked and not outrageously priced. We took a tour of the pool area and sauna, but didnt take the time to use them. The pool was very warm and everything was clean and welcoming.

We used the hotel parking (secured) for 15 Euro per night, but had a difficult time parking the car. The garage is VERY tight and should not be used for cars larger than a 4 door sedan. We actually hit another car while we were trying to maneuver into our assigned parking space. Thankfully, there was no damage. The parking was the most annoying part of the hotel, but the price is reasonable compared to other places we have seen.

Definitely book this hotel. It is one of the more classy boutique hotels we have stayed in.

This hotel was in a great location; walking distance to stores and the cathedral. We were there during carnival celebrations thinking we would be disturbed by noise from the people celebrating, but it was really quiet.
The rooms were very modern and clean. We were very pleased, will stay there again for sure.
