“Highly interesting museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

Brilliant exhibition on Roman Germanic history in Germany and especially in Cologne. Many exhibits from excavations in the region with well-evident explanations. A must for any fan of history and culture vultures

“Extensive collection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

We live in London and have been to the British Museum to look at the roman treasures yet I had never seen the wide variety of relics, especially jewellery.

“Roman Floors”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

The story of the floor's discovery during the building of an air-raid shelter is just the beginning of this adventure. The floors are amazing and worth the visit all by themselves but there is so much more to see.

“Excellent time spent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013 via mobile

Good over view of roman culture in Germanic territory. Beautiful mosaic floor. Many items described in English. Many are not. Still good time spent while in Koln. Next door to Dom. Great area around Dom and museum.

“Some amazing artefacts here...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

I found this an excellent museum; but then I would, I’m a history nut, and living almost upon Hadrian’s Wall on Rome’s Northern border, it was fascinating to see a Roman- German museum from the Empire’s Eastern edge.
The museum is extensive, inexpensive, and very well laid out. I’d recommend it for anyone interested in the history of this part of the world during Roman and later times (although there is some stuff that’s much earlier than the Romans, Neolithic, Bronze Age, etc).
There are some outstanding exhibits here, not only the mosaic floors, but some of the jewellery too, is astonishingly beautiful, good examples of both Roman and “barbarian” artwork and sculptures.
I would allow 2-3 hours to do this museum justice, although younger children might get bored, as there isn’t much in the way of the fashionable interactive stuff for them to do. Much of the labelling is in German only,
