“OK for a zoo”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

As an animal lover I have mixed feeling about zoos. Many of the enclosures seemed too small, such as the big cats & elephants. I also felt sad for the monkeys....I have seen worse but could be better.

This zoo is awesome. We stayed 5 hrs and would like to have stayed longer. We loved the animals, landscaping, and the aquarium.

“One of the best European Zoo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

A great place to spend a leisurely day in Cologne.
Zoo is unique in that for such a small area near the center of the city were able to fit so many kinds of animals, and so they created a wonderful habitat for them!
A large variety of spacious, simply tremendous aviaries for elephants, monkeys, jaguars. Area of tropical forest, penguins and seals. What a gem!

Especially struck by tropical zone, a zone for hippos (with a pond with a clear glass side view with fishes and ducks), giraffes and elephants.

On the territory of the eateries, children's play area with swings and slides and at the same very clean and no smell!

One of the best zoos in Europe, definitely!
Before that I was a fan of Schoenbrun's Zoo in Vienna, Cologne but changed my mind.

Council:
Buy the combined ticket - zoo aquarium funicular.
So it will be cheaper deal and it'll take the whole day for the family, also benefit is a pleasant walk from the height of the cable car will see all the Cologne!
Very beautiful!

Also the zoo and back to the center (to the Cathedral) can be reached by the little train that runs along the promenade along the river.
Something about 6 or 7 euros, the benefit during that time you listen to the guide's tour.
If you traveled from the zoo by cable car to the opposite side and do not want to return as the same way back, you can take a walk through a lovely park in the direction of the cathedral (in May, it is all in the tulips!) then only 2.5 euros by the boat you can reach the opposite shore near the Cathedral.
Runs every 15 minutes.

“Aquarium visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

Just outside the entrance to the zoo stands the aquarium. This was free to get in and housed many different species of fish and reptiles. We "popped" in and spent a very pleasant hour or so looking at the exhibits.
