“Great little place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

A little Gem!, yes you can find cheaper places around cologne and if your a tight Get go right ahead, but as for the Rathaus its modern fresh clean really helpful staff etc,
We went for a short break and found the hotel is located perfectly for all attractions. We would use this hotel again and probably stay longer .

Thanks again

Dear Barber40,

thank you for your great feedback!
Critical reviews always help us improve our service, but if like in your case everything was perfect we just enjoy reading and of course we are happy that we contributed to a great holiday experience.
One guest just sent us an article that is online in the Cosmopolitn magazine, they write
"...The modern rooms look like something from a design magazine, but it’s the attention to detail that makes it a total gem."
You wrote we are "a little gem" so it must be true ;-)
OK we promise we will not rest on our laurels but do our very best to make your stay even better when you come back as promised to stay with us longer!
Thank you for your accolades and greetings to Manchester from
Michael, Manfred and the whole "StaR" team

Intimate hotel - 8 rooms. Very comfortable rooms, friendly and helpful staff. Very good value for money. Breakfast outstanding - large selection of fruits, cereals, cold meats, cheese etc much of the food home made, organic or locally sourced. Very centrally located yet surprisingly quiet. Within easy walking distance of most sights and near to U - bahn and mainline station for travel further afield. Cannot say we could find any fault with the hotel. Would make this first choice for anyone visiting Cologne for city break or even business reasons.

Room Tip: As there is no lift rooms 1,2,3 are on first floor so if you don't want to climb too many stairs...

Location perfect for cathedral, station, museums, river, shops all within minutes of hotel. Very quiet, amazing for such a central location. Staff very friendly, excellent breakfast with local produce and a daily info sheet with weather, suggestions for places to visit, restaurants etc which we did find genuinely useful. Comfy room with decent shower. Can't fault it!

What a wonderful hotel! The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was gorgeous and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent.

The location can't be beat. There's a new U-Bahn (metro/subway) station just steps away. It's a very brief walk to the train station. It's smack in the middle of the sights most people want to see.

We loved it and would recommend it in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: There's no elevator. It didn't bother us at all, but if three flights of stairs would be a p...

We came to Cologne for a couple of days last weekend, and stayed at Stern am Rathaus.
When we come back to Cologne, indeed to anywhere in Germany, we will be staying at the same hotel.
We arrived early, and the team were very accommodating, speaking better English than some staff speak in hotels in England, helping with our luggage and giving directions to the carpark nearby.
Cologne is an easy city to navigate, with just about everything in walking distance (my fiancee was keen on the shopping on Schildegasse), and the Hotel situated perfectly near the Altstadt area so you can walk to the Dom, and grab a swift beer on your way back.
Our room was beyond amazing, and we have to thank the hotel for our upgrade to the two floor suite at the top of the hotel. Very comfortable bed, very quiet (brilliant considering the proximity to a regularly chiming bell outside), and wonderfully presented rooms - perfect for me having just driven 400miles from the UK.
We slept like logs, and woke up to the buffet breakfast in the reception area, with a nice touch being the small info guide provided to guests detailing the day's weather forecast, and with information on places to visit. We were thoroughly impressed by the good quality breakfast (especially the home-made marmalade and local honey!)
Overall I would class this as the best hotel I have been to in Europe, a great gem of boutique style and customer service which we will use again!

Room Tip: Book the suite (room7)

We've had a wonderfull weekend in this small hotel: special decoration/interior; very comfortable.
The staff was very friendly and helpfull for all our questions.
The breakfast also is great beause of the fresh , homemade products.
The location is ideal for visiting the old centre of Cologne, the Museum Ludwig and the Chocolate Museum at the Rhine.
The room was fine,a bit small ,but everything one needs was available. We liked the design and clever styling ,for example the bathroom. The only inconvenience to me was the warm blanket for sleeping.
We were surprised that it was very quiet: in the middle of the centre.

This small personal hotel is situated in an excellent location, just a couple of minutes walk from the very impressive cathedral and high street shops, a few minutes walk to the Rhine and about 15 minutes walk from the train station. It was a good base for our winter stay of 3 days as there was plenty to do in town including the Lindt chocolate factory and museums. We stayed in room 7, which is on the top floor (by stairs), the room was very well furbished with modern decor and stairs leading to a mezzanine with table, seating and books. The hosts were friendly and offered a cold breakfast with home-made and local produce and a variety of breads, cheeses, meats, jams, eggs, yoghurts etc but also with little extras from other countries as a nice touch. All in all, a very enjoyable stay in a small hotel which we would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: Room 7 had a mezzanine for relaxation and space.
