“Lovely ambience, great setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2007

Dorint Venus Berg (I think they are not part of the sofitel chain anymore) is a lovely hotel.

We stayed here during December to visit the christkindl markets in Bonn and surroundings. The hotel is a bit out of town (approx. 15 minutes by car)

The rooms are not the biggest but have all the facilities you need. the bathroom is clean, and fitted with one of the biggest mirror I have ever seen in a hotel. The bath is a bit on the small side but the shower is one of those fancy massage, raindrop type.

the only disadvantage are the beds, maybe a mattress pad on top of the box spring type beds makes the beds more comfy.

BTW, the sauna was working (but quiet) and the pool was nice and warm.

This place is just wonderful. I can't understand anyone who isn't charmed by the amazing views from the rear rooms, Brasserie and Restaurant (if you have the money!) terraces and the sheer beauty of the rooms and genuine service. I must be a sad old thing but I thought it was the best hotel I've ever stayed in - anywhere, ever and I'm a well-traveled 40-something with a bit of cash in my pocket and experience of what passes for a good hotel in the UK! The food here is INCREDIBLE. You WILL spend the rest of your life comparing your meals to those you had at the Dorint in Bonn. The service for everyone - children, business people, tourists alike is first class at every level and the rooms - ask for one with a forest view - are excellent in every way - understated, yes, but that's called style - yeah?!

Yes, it is in the middle of nowhere but what a nowhere! Surrounded by the most gorgeously unspoilt forest - a great base to discover The Rhine Valley with its castles round every corner, the lovely Eifel region and amazing chocolate box villages and the Nurburgring - nuff said! I really can't praise this place enough. Just GO there!

I spent 3 days at the Dorint Venusberg in Bonn in early April with my family. It was a very quiet time just before Easter, so the hotel was very empty.
This was probably the reason for the abandoned feel of the downstairs spa. The jacuzzi-sozed pool was cold and the sauna switched off.
The rooms however (we stayed in a luxury double with river views) are bright and airy with tasteful if somewhat conservative furnishings in light wood. In contrast to the nice rooms, service- and equipment levels feel more 4- than 5 star.
The hotel is situated in the middle of a forest on a hillcrest above the Rhine valley with some views of the city of Bonn below through the trees. Matching this setting, the hotel's decor follows a subtle country house theme. The hotel's restaurant has achieved a Michelin star and is definitely worth going to for dinner, being Bonn's best restaurant. Having breakfast or dinner outside on the terrace in the summer is beautiful. Parking is free. In fact, I would not recommend staying at the hotel without a car,
The main reasons for staying here then are the secluded location away from the city. In the summer, when the Rhine valley can become very warm and humid, the shady hilltop location also provides relief.

  • Liked — The views, the restaurant, the breakfast
  • Disliked — the lonely and abandoned feeling spa
