“U Bahn access to Bonn or Cologne”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

Stayed two nights on third floor. Room was of good size with reasonable sized bathroom. Facilities in the room included LCD TV, safe, bar fridge, hot plate and cutlery. Staff were helpful and spoke excellent German and good English. Only problem was that there was no elevator. Hotel is located in apartment block a short walk from U-Bahn station Tannenbusch Mitte (U66).

Room Tip: Supermarket located on right as you come out of U-Bahn station Tannenbusch Mitte (U66). Milk and oth...

The exterior of this enchanting hotel could be deceitful. It exudes an aura of nondescript coldness and age that will make the traveller feel he is in the wrong place. Until you walk inside. From the reception, you meet a very warm staff that takes you through lodging formalities, then you are alone. Location of your room is described to you and you have to find it yourself. The blocks are secure from an intruder. The beds are fanciful but without a space to waste with the settee almost confusing you as to which one is the bed. You have a mini bar in the room and heater. The rooms are neat and attractive. Breakfast is sumptuous .

Room Tip: Block five parades a good view on the right flank

I was looking for a moderate price hotel not too far from the city center and I ended up finding this place. It was a reasonable price (82 euro per night, incl breakfast). The hotel itself looked quite average, I dislike multiple entries and would prefer not to go through outside every time I needed something at the reception. It also feels safer.
What I didn't like was the environment. The closest restaurants are located quite far away and the whole neighborhood feels little unsafe (I really didn't appreciate arriving during dark time here). The hotel also have some other little flaws which annoyed me quite a bit, like quite slow internet connection with coupons about which I found out about by accident (nobody at the reception told me that I may want to request some coupon and from the website which pops up after connecting to wireless, it looked like you have to pay) and some of the receptionists didn't really speak much english, which was annoying especially when I wanted to order taxi for airport for early in the morning, I was dreaded that the 'operation taxi' will fail, honestly.

But let's go for the pros, the hotel is clean, the staff is friendly and it's well connected with the city center (approx. eight minutes by train). If you need a place just to sleep over, it's a reasonable choice.

If you are staying in Bonn for more than 6 days and on a budget this might be a good option. They charge you around EUR 56 without breakfast.
Positives:
1. Free internet vouchers; no extra charges. Many other hotels charge me extra for the same.
2. Just 3-4 minutes away from the Tannenbusch Mitte Station. You can reach Bonn HBF in minutes and Koln Hbf (Dom) is about 45 mins.
3. Rooms are good with some provision for cooking, (which is rare in hotels here) and they are not very small as compared to some other hotels i stayed in.
4. Quiet location
5. The staff is overall very polite and kind.
Negative:
1. The location is not so great; 'perceived' not to be very safe (poor immigrants etc?). Although, i had no troubles personally. There's not much to do around here. You will have to take the train to get to any place decent to hang out or for shopping. Although it will just cost about 1.80 EUR for a one way ticket to Bonn Hbf. So it's compromise.
2. I would have liked tea/coffee in my room. Wasn't there.

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor are nice. I could walk into a nice little garden at the back of my room.

My check in experience was good. Although I arrived before 1 pm, within a few minutes I was in my room and able to leave for a meeting without the burden of my luggage. It took twenty minutes from leaving the hotel until my arrival at the University Club, Bonn. The U-trams are prompt, allow easy access to Bonn, Cologne and other districts, linking with main-line rail services. The Greman Railway "London Special" ensures travel to anywhere in Germany is affordable, from €49 each way (book direct via on-line).

The room was of a generous size, included a kitchen sink, cooker, fridge and crockery, pans and cutlery. A large supermarket nearby meant I could make my vegan meals without difficulty.Bathroom and shower quite adeqate - and clean.

I had no negative experience and will stay here again.

Room Tip: There's no lift, but ground floor rooms are safe should mobility be an issue - and the nearby U...

My mother and I stayed here while visiting Bonn in February. The service personnel were extremely helpful and spoke very good English. We felt like we were staying "at home" vs. staying in a hotel. The parking garage is secured with your key to get in and out. And you can enter your building directly from the garage. I have not felt more safe anywhere else we have stayed. I was amazed at the comfort and security we felt for such a low price.

I have stayed 10 days here, my room was very spacious. As I stayed quite long, I enjoyed the built-in kitchen corner. The breakfast was very good. The hotel is about 5 minutes walk from the U-Bahn station. There's Wifi, however it is not free of charge. There's a do it yourself laundry service, for reasonable price.
