“Reasonable business hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

In general, I was pretty satisfied with the Aachen Novotel. It is centrally located so you can walk to any number of restaurants for meals (if you do not want to use the hotel restaurant, which I found to be reasonable). The room was spacious (by European standards) though I would have liked more space to hang and keep by clothes (there was no closet in my room, just a hanging stand). The furnishings looked reasonably well maintained and the full-size bed that I had was very comfortable (though I like my beds on the firm-side).

One annoyance was that WiFi was not included in the package. You needed to purchase access in 24-hour intervals for 9 Euros. That was not too bad but the fact that you need to pruchase access for EACH device was a bummer. That can add up if you have a laptop, phone, tablet, etc. In the end I just did for two devices but it would have been nice to not have to choose.

All in all, I would stay here again.

The facilities in the Aachen Novotel are what you would expect from a large hotel chain - the rooms were clean, but a little small, the staff were friendly and the breakfast buffet was reasonable. The parking for the hotel is a public underground carpark, located directly under the hotel and sporting the largest parks I have seen in a European carpark. Parking cost approximately €11 for the night and can be paid at reception. The hotel itself is about a 700m walk into the old town past some slightly seedy shops.

Stayed here with my daughter for three nights as a base for the Belgian grand prix. It was very convenient for Spa, about a 40 minute drive. At the end of the day it is like any other Novotel, it's clean and relatively smart. Parking at a daily rate is under the building which is convenient. Staff were polite and helpful. Paying for wifi is annoying but still common. On the front of the building you have to keep windows closed to keep out the road noise, but they do work.
Aachen was nicer than expected, the centre especially.

Recently took the in laws to Aachen for a weekend break and we booked the Novotel on the web. On arrival we parked outside and unloaded our bags and were greeted by very friendly staff. We checked in and parked the car in the underground car park beneath the hotel.
Rooms were clean , light and efficient although not huge but for €85 I don't expect palatial proportions. It was extremely warm weather when we were in Aachen and we enjoyed the individual airco in the room. Everything was just fine.
The bar was very pleasant and the walk into the old town was just 10 minutes max from the front door. All in all and excellent place to stay if you are lucky enough to visit this fascinating ancient city. It has histry going back to Charlmagne's time so make sure you explore.

Wanted to spend 2 nights in the capital of Charlemagne and did a room only half price deal. Usual high quality room, service and decor which is expected of this brand although the carpet in the room a little threadbare. Asked for a quiet room bit didn't get one. Probably not possible in this location. Relatively noiseless if the windows kept closed and the air conditioning on. No free wifi, a policy which makes no sense in an iPad world and just irritates the customers. Didn't take breakfast or any meals. Kettle in the room and breakfast inordinately expensive for those not on expenses. Aachen a huge disappointment. What character remained after the great fire of the 17C was removed by the USAF in 1944.

An excellent modern hotel, walking distance to the main tourist attractions. Clean, comfortable, good service and with parking underneath the hotel, I can't fault it. Windows are double glazed so even the room we had, on the street side of the hotel, was quiet.
