“Relaxing stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We've stayed at Hohe Düne for the second time. This time for five nights.

The good:
* Breakfast is amongst the best I've had at hotels
* The spa/pool area is fantastic and great to relax (beware: children only allowed for an hour or so a day)
* The rooms are great/relaxing

The annoying:
* We were there in February (Winter) and it was incredibly warm in the room, we had trouble cooling it down even with the windows open
* People would come into the spa area before breakfast, put their towels down and reserve the good spots for the whole day. I wished the staff would check up on these things.
* The showers in the spa area only operate 10 seconds at a time so you're constantly busy pressing that button for more water
* The hotel is expensive and that's okay but a glass of wine is only 0,1l at this hotel. 0.2 is normal almost everywhere else, this is like a "hidden" price increase and leaves a sour taste
* The "theme" restaurants are not worth it...
* The Wifi speed was terrible. I tried to get some work done but couldn't. Speed between 0,05 and 2MBit but very unstable. This rules this out for any business related visits or conferences for me.

All in all the hotel is good and the staff was (almost) always very friendly.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2014

We’ve spent a great weekend in the Yachthafenresidenz Hohe Dune. It’s a lovely situated place just beside the canal in front of the Baltic Sea. The resort is luxurious and well equipped where almost everybody who is not a typical party guy will find something to do.

ROOM
We took a Sailor's Cabin with a Park View. That was a stylish and spacious room with a balcony. It had very comfortable king size bed, place to seat with a coffee and two small desks. The bathroom had either bathtub or a shower. The Wi-Fi was also accessible in the room.

FOOD
The breakfasts were excellent. Plenty of different kind of bread, meat and cheese to choose. Marvelous fishes (if somebody is keen on eating fishes for breakfast) and hot omelets or eggs. Mueslis, fruits, sweat pastries… whatever you want. You might take a seat outside or inside in an elegant Brasserie. What was surprising for me - Prosecco was also included in the breakfast menu!
For dinner you could find a few restaurants to select from – pizzeria, steakhouse or fish restaurant. I recommend to make a reservation for the evening because it was getting busy especially during the weekend.
To have a drink you might go to the Sport Bar at the top of restaurants building or enjoy it in the main lounge by the chilling live jazz music on a comfy sofa.

SPA
There was a very wide offer in resorts SPA. We haven’t decided for any of listed treatment but spent time in the pool with some hydro massages - it was quite tricky to turn few of them on because they were placed on the wall underneath the water surface. To take a rest you might choose between deckchairs around the pool, in the small garden or on the mezzanine with front see view. There were also some soft sofas situated in few cavities with the curtains which created a little privacy if somebody wishes that. A small paddling for the children was situated in another location. On the rooftop you could find some sunbeds but the weather was not good enough for us to take that possibility.

WHAT TO DO
I highly recommend this place to all of you who would like to take a rest away from the city and stay in some silent place. But this is not so far away from interesting spots. By the resort is the Marine Science Center where you may watch seals behavior or even dive with them. You could take a walk to the old lantern at the end of a breakwater or relax in ‘Strandkorb’ at the beach. If you want to see more of Warnemünde you can easily take a convenient ferry to get from the resort to the heart of the town in few minutes.

If you plan to travel the German Baltic coast with its many old and beautiful "Hanse stade" you should include Rostock, but stay in the seaside resort Warnemünde. Here you'll find plenty of small hotels and B&B, but if you want the best, book the the yacthhafen residenz. It's not only a hotel, it's a resort with a big marina, several good restaurants, a safe playground for the children, where they can enjoy fun in the water. From the hotel you can easily reach other beautiful parts of the coast, a.o. Wismar - Stralsund - the coast of Rügen, it's all done on a day trip. But don't forget Warnemünde, just on the other side of a small channel. By the way, if you have been cruising, you'll find the hotel lobby and the shopping malls a true copy of a cruise ship.

Room Tip: Ask for a room like the "Skipper cabin" or bigger with balcony and sea view. You can choos...

Location is great with just a 5 min boatride to Warnemünde. View is magnificent. The basic rooms (cabins) are a bit small and beds are hard and don't feel that comfortable. For the price you pay, which is one of the highest in Warnemünde/Rostock, I would have expected a higher quality. It does not feel like 5 star. Breakfast is also average quality. I did not use the resort amenities.

The resort is vast but at the same time it does include a lot for the price you pay. Rooms are great with all amenities you can expect. I liked the Balcony at the Riva Residence which gave you a nice view on the canal Rostock - Warnemuende and the cruise ships that (although sometimes a bit noisy) strawl along at your doorstep. Wellness area is very recommendable. Plenty of choice. Diner at the gourmetrestaurant 'The Butt' was excellent. We spent sometime at the Sports Bar during the world cup group matches which I can recommend as well. Best feature however was the staff. Very professional and very helpfull and certainly worthy of 5star rating. Valet service, outstanding concierge services, swift check in/out. As the resort is vast you will have to do some walking but for those who mind there are bicycles available. Main building is situated around the yachtharbour and although we did not try it there will for sure be sailing trips available. Since you are somewhat isolated from nearby town (reachable on foot by a short ferry) the in house shops are a welcome alternative.

Room Tip: Ask a corner room. Rooms are very spacious and have large balcony which, especially during nice wea...
