I loved this hotel from the moment I stepped into its charming, wittily-designed lobby with a cool long bar and clever touches everywhere, like a ring of green apples around the top of a planter and scads of vases on a console table, each with but one flower. [-]! Very cool.
Staff was friendly and helpful in English and German. My room was an absolute delight, very IKEA, very sunny, bright, quiet, well-sized with a safe, great storage and I couldn't have been happier my two nights there. I walked in and grinned I was so pleased. It had a great feel to it.
The hotel is unassuming from the outside, but super inside (though internet is very expensive and I stayed at hotels where it was free). The breakfasts were the best, most substantial and delicious in the seven 3-star and 4-star hotels I stayed in over two weeks in Germany. Wait staff were charming and the one lunch I had there was superb.
I cannot recommend this hotel more highly, especially since it's in the pedestrian mall area of Braunschweig and very, very quiet (I had a courtyard room, as well).
BTW, if you're tall like me, always ask for a "Franzosischen bett" in Germany which is German for a true queen bed, not two singles pushed together with a gap down the middle.
