“Good location, ok value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2009

The rather plain exterior of the Hotel Baeren appropriately reflects the no-frills interior. I received a very friendly and helpful reception when I arrived. The interior showed some age, but was clean and in good order. It is located very centrally in Wiesbaden, close to many upscale shops and restaurants in the pedestrian zone. It is about a mile from the central train station.

My room was quite small; single bed, small shelf with desk area with chair. Small closed. Small, but adequate TV. The bathroom was tiny, All the fixtures were modern and in good order. The room and the bathroom were very clean.

The only problem I had with the room was that it got quite stuffy. If I opened the window a lot of street noise came in. The undesired warmth was exacerbated by the European-style bedding, which consisted of a single, fluffy comforter which proved too warm. The bed was firm, but comfortable.

Free unsecured wireless internet was available in my room. Some of my associates in other rooms indicated that they did not receive it in their rooms.

Breakfast, included in the room price, was an excellent buffet. An array of meats, cheeses, fruits, breads, cereals and some hot dishes were available. My lunch in the Hotel's dining room was excellent and reasonably priced. The restaurant is also open for dinner.

The hotel features thermal baths, at a small additional cost. I did not try them.

I was booked here by a local sponsor, so had no choice of hotels.

Staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
Room was tiny with built in furniture--single bed, tv on shelf, bedside table, wardrobe, and desk with chair. Separate bathroom.
The room was very hot even when it cooled down outside (maybe because of the hot indoor pool or the underground springs?). Closing the door to the bathroom helped, but it was positively steamy after a few hours. I closed the heavy windows and curtains because of the street noise. I thought it would be quiet over the front of the hotel on a tiny street that looks more like a small parking lot. However, bus and car traffic was continuous on the larger street alongside the hotel. Plus the late night foot traffic was very loud--arguments, screaming, yelling--perhaps a nightclub nearby? And on Saturday night a hotel around the corner had people partying out on a balcony with loud music past 1 am.

Breakfast was OK with the usual meats, cheeses, good fruit, but limited bread.
