“Schnitzel with a duck! Sort of.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

Located inside Bruhl’s Hotel Trapp is also home to the Christel’s Entenstube Restaurant. We had wiener schnitzel and potatoes. It was excellent. For a nightcap, we had some flaming coffee..definitely a must do. The waitress brings coffee, liquor, sugar, and fire. She lights the sugar and alcohol on fire at your table and completes it with coffee and cream. It was fantastic, both in presentation and in a very unique ceramic vase style antique looking mug. The wait staff and service is polished, in English (Jenna is sweet and loves Americans), and accomplished. Restaurant, like adjacent hotel, is all duck themed. When they bring your receipt back, a tiny ceramic duck is included. Excellent restaurant in every way, pretty, decorated, full bar, private group space. Loved the hotel, and the restaurant.

After a walk round town we picked this restaurant for the menu at the door. It was a good choice. We felt guilty about not going heavier on the duck options but settled for the duck consomme starter as a compromise. It was good, as was the complimentary pate/dip with fresh grainy bread that accompanied it.

An Argentine (why Argentine for goodness sake?) steak and a Wiener schnitzel each came with a mixed leaf salad. Both were correctly cooked, tender and tasty. The steakist got french fries and the schnitzler had saute new potatoes. There was a small veg garnish to mollify any possible veggie fifth-columnists.

A bottle of red(ish) Spaetburgunder washed it all down. It was an interesting wine, not a familiar one, and the best vintage will never sell for a thousand bucks even in the City, but it made for an authentic local accompaniment to the meal at €25.

There was nothing to fault. The maitresse d' was on the ball with her helpful and multilingual commentary, the atmosphere was spot-on for the full Rheingau experience and the food was well cooked and well presented.

Anatidaephobes might find it all a bit much, what with all the duckabillia that festoon the place, but for us it was €80 well-spent. (A darn sight better value than a similar sum spent at the Brighton Harvester grill two days previously for a 4+2 family meal marred by glacial delivery and burnt lamburgers. Ed.)

Friendly staff, really good food, a very decent winelist and the best selection of weinbrands we found in town.
Went to the restaurant twice in a week and found it to be quite superior to the others.V of
