“Friendly hotel with good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

Had a family room for four nights and found staff very helpful. Breakfasts good and enjoyed several evening meals in the restaurant. Convenient for Rhine cruises (five minutes walk to boarding platforms) and also railway station (under ten minutes walk). Hope to stay here again.

The hotel has a riverfront view and is away from the noise of the railway though the station is in walking distance. The staff are very friendly and the food was excellent. Assmanshausen is at the quiet end of Ruedesheim but has a chairlift to the ridge where the Germania statue is situated. It also has its own station and river ferry landings.

Room Tip: Get a river view. There is always something to see moving on the river

We stayed on night in July 2013, arriving by KD cruise down the UNESCO world heritage section of the Rhine from Koblenz. The walk from the jetty was a short, easy 3 blocks along the River's edge (we bought a backpack rather than suitcases). There is also a railway station less than a block away, and a chairlift (Seilbahn) up to the top of the mountain. There you can feed the deer, wander through the woods to several lookouts and explore the huge Nieder Waldderkmill Germania memorial overlooking Rudesheim. From there a cable car carries you over the vineyards down to Rudesheim. There are also picturesque cycling paths along the river and you can take bikes on the KD cruise.

We enjoyed breakfast outside with a view of the castle on the other side of the Rhine river.
We also enjoyed a supper treat of apple strudel and a cup of tea in the garden.

The hotel is quaint but not up market. We were amused by the lamb pictures in the carpet and the lovely stained glass windows in the stairwell.

There were insects at night -they will come in if you have the windows open whilst the lights are on.

Room Tip: Some top floor rooms had balconies and a view of the Rhine and castle. I would pay extra for that ne...

We were surprised how clean the hotel was, how friendly the personnel were and how much the people went out of their way to help.
So much so we have rebooked the same room later in the year so we may relax and maybe visit a Christmas market.
The view from the room was really fine and always boats and barges something happening in front of our room. AND OH, SO CLEAN. Room 34 that was ours and will be again in December.

Room Tip: No tip as it says all rooms face the Rhine ....

i have just returned from an 8 day tour holiday with my friend and we were based at the hotel Lamm, it is in an excellent spot right near the river with an excellent view of it. The weather was very hot most of the time and there was no air conditioning, the hotel was very clean and our room was small but adequate. The breakfasts were excellent but the evening meals left a lot to be desired. two nights we were given a choice of turkey or pork steak, fish or chicken and both were served with what looked like the same white sauce, The staff were very pleasant although the young manager was a little distant. it isnt advisable to have the windows open at night, the trains appeared to be every few minutes at night and kept us awake and the insects off the river come into the room but despite this we had an enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: the rooms at the side appear to be quite small

This is a comfortable hotel right on the banks of the River Rhine. Breakfasts were excellent with a wide range of hot and cold foods. The weather was hot and we were advised to keep our river view windows closed to avoid being annoyed by insects from the river. There was no air conditioning but a very adequate fan was provided. The room was the best twin room we have had in quite some time with TV, hairdryer, plenty of wardrobe space and a very bright and modern décor. There is a railway line immediately behind the hotel but there was absolutely no noticeable noise. A Barbecue evening took place in the garden area during our stay and was very successful with an excellent selection of dishes. It was pleasant to sit outside the hotel with a drink in the evenings.

Room Tip: Request a river view if possible as it is quite breath-taking to see the fast flowing Rhine and the...

We stayed at this hotel during Rhine In Flames for three nights with our two small kids. This weekend they had a package with a four course menu friday night and 5 course menu saturday night. Friday night the the meal included a winemakers dinner with six wines from the great winery Barth in Hattenheim. The food these two nights was really great gourmet food from a chef who seemed to have ambitions for his kitchen and seemed to enjoy making a more upscale menu than we expect this hotel normally serves. Sunday night we had the normal half board menu, which was more down to earth but definitely still good quality. The Restaurant has tables in front of the hotel with views of the river and the price for wine, beers and soft drinks a reasonable.

The Location of the Hotel is on the riverside in the lovely village of Assmanhausen. We had a room with a great view of the Rhine. Our room was newly renovated and had aircondition (supperior plus room) so we had none of the noise problems others have mentioned.

Even though both the food and rooms are really good, what makes this hotel outstanding is the staff. We have never before stayed in a hotel with that kind of service. They did everything to make the stay great for us and our kids and way beyond what you can expect. Not the kind of professional service you will get in more posh hotels, but they made a genuine and unique atmosphere.

I would really recommend this hotel for a stay in Assmannhausen.
