“Pricy but quality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

French cuisine that is not only about garlic and heavy sauces. Nicely fine cuisine with french touch. Well presented on your plate. Tasty amuses and small deserts. Look forward to experience their wins. Observed how the kitchen brigade tastet a wine from one glass with professional joy. It is pricy but for good quality food I will come again, both for business and private. If not for the price it would have been top. They love food but understand the value.

“Very Good Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

Great Restaurant over all but a bit more expensive than expected.
i really appreciate good food and good wine and we were willing to pay more than usual for a nice french cuisine but i think it was too much.
i had the squid because i didnt have any other option for a non meat dish insted of pasta and it was 39 euros. The total cost ofcourse per person was 120 euros with the strarter soup and wine.
We are meditteranean and as you canunderstant paying 39 euros for squid is a bit rediclous.
However the service and wine was really really good.

“History repeats!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012 via mobile

From what I understand this place is around for a while, decades even, I was in Frankfurt for a trade show and decide to treat myself and I'm glad I did! Be under no illusions this is not a cheap 2-3 hours but it deffinately is a gastronomic treat, from the start the staff make you feel welcome and the wine list is very comprehensive, albeit pricey. Indulge and move on! The food is imaginative with delicate presentation. All round a great meal, expect to pay between €75 and €150 per person depending on the wine, would thoroughly recommend. Gerard.

“Most expensive water I have ever tasted”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2012

Nice place, service good and food very good but expensive for what it is. We had a bottle of champagne and one average bottle of wine and for 4 paid 582 euros. A bottle of still water was 10 Euros !!! I dont mind paying a bit more in a nice restaurant but I think that is pushing it.

“As Great or Better than 39 years ago”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

Ernos Bistro - Frankfurt July 2012

The last time I was at Ernos was in 1983.

The most remarkable thing about this recent visit was that, as far as I could tell, little has changed. This is, for me, the quintessential continental bistro, even with the dense cigarette and cigar smoke of the old days removed.

Everything was as it was in my memory: superb cuisine (One Michelin Star, which they have had forever), excellent selection of wines, fine, old-fashioned service and reasonable prices.

To find anything that still fits our thirty-year plus memories is remarkable. To find that it delivers the same positive elements after so long is even better. Not that this is a glamorous restaurant. There's no glitz and no background rap music playing, unless you count being there in the midst of a classic summer thunder storm, which added to the experience as the house staff worked hard to keep me out of the pouring rain by rearranging the tables and the overhead awnings. If Ernos had a French accordion player and a maître d' hôtel speaking with a lot of "Ziz" and "Zat" accents, you could easily be in Paris, except that the usual complacency and rudeness of the French waiters is missing.

Ernos is in the Westend, a residential part of Frankfurt, surrounded by well-to-do homes and small restaurants that cater to the neighborhood, not to the tourists. Note that most of the reviews are in German, which, to me means that the shorts, sandals and T-shirt set from the USA haven't found their way here .....yet. Nearly everyone was in business-formal or business casual, (suit or jacket with or without tie for the men and dressy for the women), dressed.

I do not recommend this property for families for several reasons, but most essential is that it's an adult place with a menu and facilities that would have kids bored to death and nothing to entertain them. No kiddie meals. But for comfort, relaxation and a great meal, it is ideal.

In good weather, the tables outside are perfect for a long and enjoyable meal and good wine.
