literally just checked out of the hotel this morning & had a very good stay w/my dad!
the hotel is about 20km from frankfurt airport, just off the highway so it's only about 20min door to door. cab fare one-way runs about €35+/-.
if you prefer public transport, there's a couple of options (remember to buy your tickets prior to boarding from the info/ticket counter in the station):
1. take S8 or S9 to hauptbahnhof, then change to U6 underground to terminus station ostbahnhof & walk 2 blocks.
2. take S8 or S9 to hauptbahnhof, change to street-level tram #11 towards fechenheim/shiesshüttenstrasse to osthafenplatz (it's the stop right after the mercedes benz dealership), which stops opposite to the hotel.
NB: while i personally prefer travelling above-ground, the only silly thing about the tram regardless which direction you're going (to/from hotel) is that i guess originally the sidewalks came out to where the tram is in the middle of the road. however, after some roadworks, they've widened the road so that in fact there's a lane of traffic that runs between the tram tracks & the sidewalk. bit weird having to cross a lane of traffic (there IS a light which stops oncoming traffic when the tram nears a stop) to get to the tram.
anyway, on to the hotel!
check-in was super easy & i think the hotel is catered more for younger travelers, single business persons or couples. we had already prepaid & gotten a 3-nights-for-2 including breakfast deal, so it was €214 for our stay (€71.33/night).
DEFINITELY worth it & don't think that you're far from the action either as tram #11 or the U-6 get you to the old town or cbd in less than 15min!
the decor is different for each floor & each room. ours was this funky mishmash of old english & chinese thrown together. while the toilet is in a separate little room of its own, the sink/shower were in a separate space...it seems that some rooms have glass-enclosed showers or just no doors at all. due to this, my dad & i had to firmly stay seated in a corner to avoid unwanted peeking.
the toilet in its own room is handy i guess but the little room itself is behind some crazy industrial door that slams itself shut & is too heavy to leave open to get some air in, there's a weak fan @ best & it feels like a sauna. not for those who are claustrophobic or asthmatic!
shower was great - more like a water closet, tiled & enclosed in glass. very good pressure & i like that they provide REAL BOTTLES of shower & shampoo, not just those little dinky ones. the handwash is the same as well.
no face/hand towels tho, only big & medium sizes. bring your own little towel if you use that to wash.
our beds were in that european style of "2 twins which can make a double or be separated". sheets were very comfortable & pillows large but far too smushy for my liking.
otherwise the room had plenty of space for all of our stuff (2 big luggages, 2 small luggages), the safe was GIGANTIC, closet space to hang stuff, flatscreen tv & a fridge.
i think some other rooms have a/c but ours didn't. instead we left windows open & the floor fan going 24/7 as it was 32C + HUMID while we were in frankfurt.
our room faced west, off the main road (hanauer landstrasse) & there wasn't much noise at all despite keeping windows open all the time.
breakfast was 7:30-10am in their goldman restaurant (breakfast & dinner are totally separate entities) & it was YUMMY! they had a fabulous selection of juices, organic teas, an espresso machine or brewed coffee all available on the bar.
then there was 2 baskets of different bread/pastries, several spreads (butter, cream cheese, jams, honey), cheeses, yoghurts, fruits, oatmeal, coldcuts, DIY WAFFLES OMG & soft or hard boiled eggs. definitely super yummy.
we did eat @ the goldman restaurant for dinner a couple of times - i'll do a detailed review for it on its own, but suffice to say that it's very good & very expensive!
service was great as well. they were accommodating of our requests beforehand for a quiet room w/separate beds & away from the elevator, we were able to get bus tickets from the front desk, and when we left they arranged a cab for us to the airport w/in 2min after i'd gotten screwed over by another cab company who left us waiting 25min before calling to cancel anyway!
so, overall a great stay & would seriously consider coming back; i'd just have to request a room according to who i was staying with (keeping other rooms' glass showers in mind!).
be sure to tailor your request to your travel partner (eg separate beds, private shower). request a...
